Concours Sunday March 2

Post by Tony T »

It's looking pretty likely that I'll be in Melbourne for this one. :D
Which OzBenz members will be out there that I can catch up with?

Not so much personally, I need to ask the girlfriend what wine I like (she tells me I like Shiraz), she's into Merlot.

Looking forward to learning a thing or two from a progessional 'tog though, if talking shop is allowed in small doses. :)

Ha, but if it's overcast weather I'll come as a "coupe type". :P :D

Although I'm not a good one of those as I missed the MBClub SL run that was on last Sunday  :(

I would drive the Limo but as it the has the baby seat I like to make sure the good lady wife has the ability to take the boy out in an emergency.

Why don't we meet up on Beach Rd in the carpark opposite the South Rd intersection at say 9am.

Cruise up Beach Rd to Port Melbourne, up Bay St, left at Montague St, onto the West gate freeway, then City link over the Bolte bridge and of at Racecourse Rd to Flemington racecourse.

I will be driving up from Rosebud along the Mornington coast road then Nepean Hwy so if anyone wants to come up from down here PM me to organize a meetup.

I'll be going for sure.

Last time when i went and was lookin for parking, the guys said i could enter my car if i wanted, and it turned out cheaper to do so rather than pay to get 3 people in. Is that possible to enter my car for show, at the gates again? Orr is there some forms or registration i need to fill out. I'd love to show the SEC

At this rate we're going to need name tags with our OzBenz user name on it, so I know who I'm talking to. :D
At a recent vintage motocross race, I was talking to a guy for half an hour before we worked out who we were on the forum.

Nope, I am off to the UK and Germnay for a month on the 2nd of March, kind of a celebration trip..... The first three weeks in the Uk with the wife and then two weeks in Germany with some mates, including a trip to the Essen technoclassica, the largest classic car show in Europe...

Then again, I could tell you all about the 3.5 weeks of 'classic' car show I have seen whilst in India.

evening gents,

I don't think I"ll be able to make it as first hoped. the r129 is still on the boat and I have lots to do at home. I will however make an attempt to come and meet you in the morning on beach road in the ML jsut to say hi and meet some faces before you drive off. No promises, but keep an Eye out for a Maroon ML.

Also if you feel like having a drink after the event, my band (Royalparade.com.au) is playing at Heist on the corner of Queen and Lonsdale on Sunday night. Come along and say hi. Come and introduce yourself to the keyboard player (me)

Beautiful weather, and a massive Merc turn out!

I loved the 280se and 300se coupes, the V12 SL, the 6.3's, the Grossers and of course gull wing porn!

I did see a 6.3 leaving the racecource with a boy in the passenger seat, but the drive didn't open up the taps :( Maybe he did in a quieter location?!

I've attached some pictures. Sorry they are so small, it's the limit of this board.

I'm home again. Thanks a million to arkenstone and Chai for the BBQ, beer, wine, beer, conversation, beer, entertainment and beer on Saturday night. Good fun..................
I owe you one, ark!
Good to also briefly meet Streek G and AndrewSL.
There were LOTS of cool cars there yesterday and I reckon I took photos of most of them.
I spent most of the day tripping out over how many Benz's that were there and the quality of some of them.
Might have to mark next year's in my diary....................

Let's see..............
$92.50 for the taxi  and 6 hours bored out of my brain in the airport.
I think this may be where you come in with "I told you so"
But aside from that, I came home absolutely knackered but with some good memories, a few photos and some new friends. Can't be all bad then.

Now that you mention it Damo, I don't remember seeing an R129 there at all..................... :?
Anyone else see one?

Only MB limousines have the star, no star on the R series, G series, C126 and others but now the W204 also has the star deleted on some models.
I think BMW tried to have the bonnet star declared a dangerous thing and get it banned but couldn't find a case of some being hurt by it.

Ark: I'll pick and post your photo if you're not there tonight. Will also email the image when I get them.
Thanks Chai! Let me know what photos you want from the link I put up and I'll email you larger versions

I had the camera set to Medium ( ) so they're not too huge.

Otherwise I'll still post you a CD :)

I think I counted 28 R107's and 9 SLC's with a few pagodas, 190SL's, Patricks beautiful 300SL Gullwing, a SL55AMG and a couple of SLK's.
But I too didn't see an R129 so next year Damo you'll have to fix that.
Yep the SL's had the numbers that day but there were some incredible MB's and other Euro classics around on display.

It's good to finally meet you Chris and thanks for bringing Tony along. Next time I hope that Beach Rd around St Kilda to Beaconsfield Parade Port Melbourne won't be blocked of for a damned triathlon.
I caught up with Steven a few times there but didn't find you guys once we parked.

Steve wasn't hard to find though - he didn't leave the pair of dumped SEC's all day!

I agree on the R129 front. Didn't spot one. Similarly the only 211 I saw was the Kleeman/Zender/AMG (just how confused was it?) and not a single new C-Class which is MB's claim to be back to 'the best or nothing'.

My hearse also didn't show up....

Andrew,

You didn't happen to note the VIN of that 5.0 did you? I suspect it may be the only other 107.026 I'm aware of in Oz apart from my 500SLC. If you look at the registry at http://www.mercedesrallycars.com:8080/r ... tryPage.do it fits the description of Maurice's car #1280. Maurice owns a large number of 107s in both the USA and Australia. As yet I have never seen that car of his (in real life or photos). In fact, I have not seen any 107.026 in real life apart from mine (#2665). If anyone got more photos of that one I'd love to see them. Thanks everyone who posted so many photos from what looked like a great day. Twenty eight 107 SLs and eight SLCs... Wow!
