Spotted on Craigslist in the US. I'm new to the forum so perhaps you have a better thread for this?

Spotted at a motor garage in Victoria. Maybe gone out of business? But if they were customer cars they would have been collected long ago? Spotted last year but could have been there for 5 or 10 years.

Also a (Series Land Rover.... didn't see the front so can't say if 2, 2A or 3 (perhaps CraigB or AMG will know)

It looks like an 88" S2a, but the thing that has me buggered is the sidestep - which as far as I know only came with S3.... it could very well have been fitted afterwards though. 2 pc sliding door window and the unpainted alloy corner section are a bit of a telltale. also the tyre is missing from the mount on the bonnet, which can just be made out.

Craig has better eyes than I do - I'm going with 2a. I think the S2 had a slightly different door handle recess? (more curved)

Always liked that shape, even if inspired by the Boss Mustangs.

Yep, step by little step, Toyota has conquered the world. Who would have thought that 40 years ago? THEY did. That's what happens when you keep your eyes on the ball. Anyone listening in Stuttgart?

Now, wonder if we're going to be as fond of the next Landie?

Probably not. :jokercolor: :dontknow:

Modern LR's are awash with electrical gremlins and substandard quality control on major mechanical components - transfer case is a major pain point (ZF) the Transmission control units are like 722.9 failures (just more prolific) and the engines, particularly diesel ones driven by school-run parents are clogging dpf's because theyre not driven 'enough' on the highway.

The Velar is beautiful to look at inside and out. We looked at one and it's not hard to be seduced by the Range Rover luxury, but for all that money, I'd still buy a G-wagon or an ML63. There is no way in hell I'd own a modern range rover outside of warranty. Even the P38 is a scary proposition with BECM failures and transmission control failures (and those are easy DIY fixes mostly) not to mention the air suspension and failed compressor units because of idiot owner servicing (lack of).

I'm almost convinced there is no such thing as a reliable modern car. We're better off with our older vehicles simplicity in many ways.
electronic gimmicks are nice for Gen Y to have, so let them pay for the experience of ownership. :read2: :occasion5:

I spotted that lot a few years ago, the civic has been added since. Had a good look around, the W114 (250 I think) had mound growing all over it and was mouldy inside (though I rescued a very mouldy interior for my car and it came up great). There is also Corvette and other stuff down the RHS of the garage.

Yep, better grab that Landie, once fixed up it will go on for another 40 years. Maybe even pretend we're private investigators or detectives and get our own TV show!
