Hi all,
So a few weekends back I pulled out the old blower motor and installed a new one.
After installation took the car out for a test run around the block and whilst driving the car suddenly loses RPM and starts to hesitate. After about 10 seconds the RPM returns to normal and I drove back home. I was probably about a KM from home and the car drove back completely normal.
As I pull into my garage the car completely stalls. I try to start it but it just swings, after a minute or so it starts up normally, idles and revs up properly.
I scanned for error codes and picked up the following:
_____________________________________________________________
022, Post
CC/EA signals emergency running mode.
Unmetered air, throttle valve jamming.
Cruise control or electronic throttle to emergency running.
_____________________________________________________________
064, Post
Crankshaft position sensor signal : not recognised/implausible.
Verify crankshaft position sensor.
Segments or solenoid at starter ring gear.
Starter = OPERATE -> voltage > 0,4V A.C.
Starter = IDLING -> voltage > 1V A.C.
_____________________________________________________________
065, Post
Crankshaft position sensor : no magnet or teeth no. implausible.
Verify crankshaft position sensor.
Verify signal polarity.
Segments or solenoid at starter ring gear.
Starter = OPERATE -> voltage > 0,4V A.C.
Starter = IDLING -> voltage > 1V A.C.
I cleared the errors a few times but kept picking up the same 3 faults almost immediately after start-up.
Now faults 064 and 065 have been there for some 3 years but fault 022 is new.
So gave it a rest and went back this past weekend to look at things, now the car just turns over but wont start.
Cleared all the faults and now only picking up the following:
_____________________________________________________________
064, Post

Verify crankshaft position sensor.
Segments or solenoid at starter ring gear.

So ordered a new crankshaft sensor from the UK (not available locally), hopefully, it arrives in a week or 2.
Would a faulty crankshaft sensor replicate the issues experienced and also give an error 22?
I checked the wiring to the MAF and throttle body and both appear to be ok. The MAF and throttle body have been rewired so I know it's not the cabling.
Appreciate any help
TX

Re: Limp mode
Hi All,
Still dealing with this intermittent fault:
"022, Post
CC/EA signals emergency running mode.
Unmetered air, throttle valve jamming.
Cruise control or electronic throttle to emergency running."
The car starts up and idles fine but as soon as there's a load, i.e. the a/c switches on or the car is put into drive or reverse the idle drops and the car struggles to maintain idle.
If you give it gas it will rev up and then cut off.
I rewired the throttle body actuator some years ago and never had an issue with it afterward. The only noticeable issue was that when the a/c kicked it took a good few seconds to correct for the additional load. I just assumed this was happening because the speed sensor on the a/c compressor was bypassed.
Is there any way to test the throttle actuator or anything else that could be causing this fault?
Note - the crankshaft sensor has been replaced and the neutral safety switch is faulty. Car starts in any gear but I no longer have reverse lights. Not sure if this would affect the throttle actuator?
thanks

Re: Limp mode
I'm assuming that your avatar image is your W124 - a KE Jet model.
Have you changed the fuel pump relay?

Re: Limp mode
Yes that is the car in question - this model is the HFM / Motronic version
I have not even considered the fuel pump relay... will give it a look this weekend

Re: Limp mode
HFM/Motronic model.
Unfortunately - degradable wiring issues.
Have you checked the wiring looms to the coils underneath the manifolds? - Common wiring failure point.
Make sure you check other areas of the wiring loom carefully as well.
Short circuits particularly in the ignition area can lead to ECU failure.
