I have a 1972 280CE that I would like to improve the seat. The springs have gone very soft. Is there some way to firm up the seat bottoms?
Tks. Garry

Re: Seat base restoration
Springs are probably broken. Base is interchangeable with passenger side, that might be easier to find a good one, and changing upholstery over is pretty easy.
If you google you will see lots of fans of putting pool noodles under seat, but I like to replicate how the care originally felt. I have also seen repair kits which bind to the broken spring. But for me, step one is try finding a good passenger seat base.

Re: Seat base restoration
Thanks Craig. I have used pool noodles successfully in my Pagoda but when i removedthe seat i realised it is not so easy to access the springs area. Both Driver and Passenger are very soft. Not quite sure where to go from her.

Re: Seat base restoration
These seats have to have the covers removed to access the internals. Not that hard, compress them and then release the cover from the metal base.

Re: Seat base restoration
Thanks John,
Will take seat out again and give the compression a try. Are you still holding spares eg centre concole for w114?
Tks. Garry

Re: Seat base restoration
Here is a seat restoration I did a long time ago, but I didn't touch the springs:

This is for a W108, but I am guessing other models of a similar age will be very similar.
