S212 - 250 CDI, What to look out for?

Post by Bartman4800 »

A friend of mine, has offered me first choice on his mum's 2011 S212-250CDI (estate). She is currently shopping for a hybrid or electric vehicle, and want to change in the first months of 2022.

It's got about 70k on the clock, and has mostly done trips between Mandurah and Balingup (110km/h trips, 200 km one way)

What should I look out for, and what is a fair price? (They will probably ask dealer trade-in + a few k)

Thanks for your input.

Retail price will probably be above $30,000 in todays market condition.

If she trades it in a dealer might give her a very good price for it.
Wagon's are relatively rare and it's got the hard to find diesel.

I've been offered an extremely good price for my W212 E350 with 60,000Km's by my local stealer. - They have a queue of buyers for it.

Earlier this year I was looking to move into a new W213 E220d wagon. The dealer offered me an insane high trade in price for the W212 wagon and my old W211 sedan.

Be aware of the pitfalls of a car at 70,000 Km's. Maybe new expensive AGM battery required, transmission fluid should have been changed.
The car having done long commutes shouldn't have an issue with the regen system - very expensive to repair.

Dealer may try to lowball the tradin - depending on what dealer. you might offer $ 20 - 25K

And check the airbag suspension.

So, after a lot of humming an howing, I finally did it!

The car is a 2012 250CDI Elegance wagon, with a 105k on the clock, and a full dealer history. Car is in mint condition.
Owned by an older lady (her husband passed away after driving the car home from the dealer and then went into hospital for cancer treatment, never to come out again)

Like said before, mainly used for long stretches in country WA between Mandurah and Balingup.

I could have the car for wholesale price, because seller did not want to deal with tyrekickers and such, so for 20k it was mine!
According to Shannons, market value is 30k at the moment.

We drove it down to Bridgetown this weekend, and did about 1000 kms. Average use was 6.2 l/100k so very happy about that.

The air suspension (rear only) works perfect, now I am learning about the maintenance but I will have a gearbox flush done at dealer or independent.

Hi Bart,
congrats to the car! Not a big difference imho to the S211, so I guess you will be pleased to drive it. Ideal motor for Aussie roads ... btw. is it now a 250 or 350 CDI? Both are mentioned ...

Regards
Thomas

Long story, but at first my colleague (the son of the owner) told me it was a 350CDI.

Then on inspection it turned out to be a 250CDI. A 4 cylinder twin turbo.
Not a very sporty sound, but it's got very long legs with a lot of pull from idle and no noticeable turbo lag.

Thanks, Bart
