First a bit of background to my question. My nephew bought this car new in the UK. Due to the Global Financial Crisis, he had to move back to Aust. Apparently, this model early on had a diff problem that Merc fixed under warranty in Europe only (If it played up). His car didn't, but when he bought it back, he had to do the mod to get it to comply with ADR's. Now its done 247k. I got it from him after he went back and love it but the diff is getting very noisy. My mechanic referred me to a guy in Dandenong to look at it but he is reticent in case he can't get the parts. My questions.
Is there a diff from another model I can use, and just change it over? Is there a better MB specialist in this area, or is it time to walk away, which I am reticent to do as I just spent 5.5k on a new timing chain?
