S1 W115 Trans Selector Linkage Joints

Post by hazzac181 »

Hi all,
Will soon be in the process of replacing the rear main seal on my '72 S1 W115 220.

While I'm fiddling around there, does anyone know if there are any kits for the trans selector linkages? Mine are absolutely buggered - half are zip-tied. I have a column shifted auto. Failing that, what should I use to replace the originals? Unfortunately I can't take any pictures, I'm stuck in stage 4 lockdown and the car is a couple of hours away. Is there a parts catalog I can access online?

TIA

I just bought these for a '74 W115, but a floor change. Different bushes on the internet, was hard to work out what was correct or not and I needed them fast and to be correct working on someone elses car in a different location. So I went to the dealer with the chassis number - something like $9 each - maybe you can find some for $4.... plus postage. Items like that it makes sense to me to just go straight to dealer, often on this sort of stuff they are pretty reasonable on price, but check price first.

Hi Craig, is there supposed to be a link or photo attached? I can't see anything on my end. Are you in Melbourne? Any dealer recommendations (i.e. will any old dealer do)? I can't exactly go in at the moment.

Cheers

Sorry, no photo etc and I'm in SA - and I don't know your model or gear change - but a dealer will - I just did it over the phone, gave them the VIN number and said i wanted the bushes for the trans shifter linkage. While on the line he looked it up, said about the two bushes, gave me a price, said they had to come from Victoria I think, I gave him my credit card number and they called when they were ready to pick up. They would probably send them to you also if getting around is a problem right now. I would say any old dealer would do the job, but call and see how you go - you can always hang up and call another...... only one dealer in Adelaide though!

But main point - a dealer can work off your VIN number and get it right.

I presume you know that the rear main seal is a rope seal, which will involve removal of the crankshaft to replace?
