The Twin Antennas

Post by Michel »

With the purchase of my W140 400SEL online I am a little baffled by the fact that it has a normal radio aerial on the passenger side rear quarter and two others on the tip of either rear quarter.
Can someone explain why and how these operate? :dontknow:
Many thanks

Them's are not antennas.
There for backing the car - you can see the rear edges as you reverse.

Operate off the same pump as the self closing doors.

Hi Michel,
as said b4, they were a "predecessor" of the parctronic; they come out, when you put reverse gear in. Got some nasty comments at the time, when the "tank" was introduced ...

The "Tank" was the most comfortable quiet Benz I ever owned - having said that one of the most unreliable.

If the "antennas" are up continuously then you have something wrong with the self closing system :drunken:
As Thomas has said, they should only come up while reversing.

I you bought the car online, then just hope the self closing door stuff works plus the AC.

I agree, my father had a 1991 300SE, really spacious and quiet. However - if I remember correctly - development continues and my W222 is way better, space and noise.

Well...
Thanks for the explanation.
I'm missing one and the other is sitting nicely in position.
The doors close very well (I mean they pull in when half shut)

I've also repainted the whole car over the weekend.
