Recommendations for engine conversion specialist?

Post by Rennen »

Hi all,

Can anyone recommend a reliable engine specialist for a complete retrofit to Stimpy? Options will be M113 (preferred) or M117 as next best. Car is mostly restored now and needs something to power it after his original plan failed. He is in Brisbane but will transport anywhere on the east coast. New Zealand is an option too as that will be his final destination.

Dkubus (SA) is too busy
DMD Auto (NSW) is at the very top end of the budget but seems to know what he is doing
Gullwings (Qld) arent responding

Feel free to message me directly or drop a new name below.

Thanks gents. Euro Auto tech is not far from where the car is and my old stomping ground. I'll reach out there first and see how we go.

You mentioned NZ - that's where the guy is who developed and raced the M119 powered W126SEC race car - lots of discussion of this car, particularly Benzworld, and I think the guy has an engineering workshop. I'm sure you could track him down. I think Kim Holmes - Kimrh? - knows him pretty well and could provide contact detail if needed.

You could talk to him too about his conversion to W126 rear end while at it.

We have never done a M113 into anything conversion, but can't see why it would not be possible. The challenge if you want to keep the MB modules to the run the engine will be to emulate the wheel speed sensors, drive authorisation system ,etc, etc. Your best route is to use a Haltech (or similar) stand alone control module for the engine and a ofgear controller for the 722.6 auto. Both of which will set you back many $$$$$. IMHO this is why you see so many M117 conversions as much of it is "plug and play"

Thanks Craig, John, I'll search for the kiwi guy and see where that leads. No reply from Euro Auto Tech yet either. I want this done right so will stick with reputable shops and if I cant get what I want within a decent budget I'll hibernate it again me thinks.
