Windscreen Rubber/Seal replavement

Post by markbraley »

Hello all, I have 280SEL 1980 and need to replace leaking windscreen (front and rear) seals. Has anyone had any experience with this, be it with the larger companies or smaller specialist ones, specifically in Victoria ? Quality, price, any advice appreciated

Cheers in advance

I can't recommend locals for you, but try and find someone who knows your car - I had O'briens do significant damage to one of my cars, and of course they have lots of different people working for them, so best if you get a recommendation of a particular person. I can help for Adelaide.

Main thing to think about is seal quality - many say genuine is the only way to go. I've only used genuine so I can't vouch if other ones are bad or good. I don't know who the oem manufacturer is for the genuine ones.

For the seal? It was something like 120 cheapest and 150 genuine, but that wasn't a dealer and was from US. Its a guess - late and been away.... but a bit of a guide - need to check anyway.

I've recently done this, ordered both front and rears from the US and then got Roys Windscreens to install (I'm in Vic).

Very happy. I've been burnt using non genuine rubber, so was happy to spend the extra. My attitude is that I won't remember how much it cost assuming job is perfect, but if not perfect I would always kick myself that I should have paid more for original MB parts.
