shockies

Post by Pete49 »

I'm in the throws of looking to replace the shocks on my '75 450SEL. Not having done it before what units to buy and how difficult to do?

SLS or not? makes a big difference. Just missed (I think) a group buy on the mercedes buy, sell swap facebook page. If you have SLS and the struts are not leaking, they probably don't need replacing. If it is bouncy or rock hard then the spheres need replacing. Otherwise I have always used Bilstein but Sachs are OEM also. Neither are particularly expensive and have a really long service life. ie. just for fronts with SLS or all around if not. You could check with Shane and the group buy or ebay or US sellers. And not difficult.

Thanks Craig, non SLS. I saw that but wasn't ready then. Not urgent but getting organised for later in the year.

I think there were quite a few ordered by the sound of things, but if you let Shane know, he can keep it in mind if any others are showing interest. I don't know how much they are by the time you order them in from parts places like Pelican etc., but the prices in that group buy looked incredibly cheap for a full set. That's interesting being non sls - I also have a non sls 450SEL and yet a number of cars with mates are 280's with sls. All that money for a 450 and you would think they would put in on there.
