WTB W116 sunroof frame - do they exist without rust?

Post by CraigB »

Mainly wanting to tap into experience here to see how hard i might have to search locally. I have 2 W116's in my yard at the moment with rust sunroof frames, that are leaking. The most urgent to get out of my yard is a friends car that I have been doing some work to. I also have W126 frames sitting around and no sign of rust. So wondering if this is an inherent problem for the W116 and almost impossible to find a good one - or that i have got 2 cars that have been sitting around with blocked drains and unloved for a long time. Both sunroofs work fine otherwise.

So I am interested if you have one too, but not the easiest part to freight being big and a bit flimsy. Ideally, one will turn up in upullit, but just like the 108, so common for so long but now none around. I can of course weld new steel. My friends not keen to go to that expense so will just clean the rust and plug it up with something for now.... but I hate putting valuable time into short term bodges that inevitably need to be redone.

Craig,
you can fit 126 sunroofs, they only require simple re welding to two small roof mounts on the rear end. we did it on our 6.9

That's fantastic! Thanks so much for that. Kinda makes sense when I think it is Webasto make the roof for Mercedes that they could use the same basic parts. I just happen to have 2 spare W126 ones.
