Replacing speedo cable

Post by JBBenz »

Hi guys first post here, I've recently bought a 280E which has a few issues for RWC. Biggest one was the crack steering bracket but the one currently giving me the most trouble is the speedo cable. The car didn't have one in it and I have no idea how to route a new one. I've got one from pelican parts hoping I could make it fit but from what I can tell its still just a bit short being left hand drive. Is anyone doing an engine swap where they could show me where the cable comes out and if I could get pointed in the right direction to get a correct cable id be extremely appreciative. It's the last thing on my list.

I'm sure someone will be able to help you in Melbourne with an example car you can look at or they can take pics - just might take them a few days to see your post. I can pm a couple if no response soon. Cables are pretty standard items and you could get a new one made locally I would think - I'm sure someone will have a used one you can use as a pattern or may even be ok to use, but if they drag then can make the needle of your speedo jump.

All sorted, did make a new hole but nothing a grommet can’t fix. Thanks for the reply though and will definitely check out the car at jolly’s.
