500 SEC homologation papers

Post by CraigB » Sat 08 Dec, 2018 12:05 am

Anyone seen these before?
https://historicdb.fia.com/sites/defaul ... roup_a.pdf

I've only ever seen the 1989 Spa SEC race car in photos? But then in the following link, they talk about DTM in 1986, but i think that is referring to W201. Some good photos of that car too in that link
https://www.benzworld.org/forums/w126-s ... e-car.html
Has anyone any info on SEC's in DTM? I was told verbally once (without reference to a source) that they intended to use SEC in DTM and 201 in rallying, but then 4WD shelved the rallying and then that went to DTM - but never seen any evidence.

These homologation papers are signed off as being from 1989, which would make it the Spa car, but includes all sorts of mods including a full range of diff ratios, 5 and 6 spd manual trans including the ratios (anyone recognise the photo of the manual box?) nice looking brakes, light cast suspension arms, even coil overs. Cylinder head port and manifold dimensions too 1mm diff for inlet and 2mm for exhaust? Photos 31/32 steering box reinforcement?- says steering arm reinforcement but I can't picture that. photo 33 adjustment with a rose joint for front suspension? Hours of fun trying to work it all out!

Also at the FIA site are papers for 107 and lots of interesting info including complex roll cage photos and data - shame that's not included for the SEC.

Getting late... will have a better look tomorrow.

And did you notice the ratios on both 5 and 6 speed - direct drive top - no overdrive! So without looking it up, guessing the auto listed is a standard box and knowing they have a particularly low 1st and standard start in second...... then 1st in both the boxes are taller than second on the auto and then all those gear ratios crammed in between that and the same top gear ratio! I have driven past the Spa circuit but not been in there. Does anyone know if it is a particularly hilly circuit ? - like Nurburgring that's not that far away. I can only imagine that to pull the power needed to shift that big body it narrowed down to a tighter rev range and lots of gears helped to 'keep it in the pocket' as they went up and down hills. Interesting though.
