w114 280e 1974 sedan red, Canberra. Hi all.

Post by c0z » Tue 27 Nov, 2018 8:17 am

Just getting some arbitrary posts out of the way as a new user, I previously owned an AMG c32 2002 in black on black, great car, sold it to move overseas. Now I am back. Now I own an 1974 w114 280e sedan auto in Signal Red. Its in good condition, needs a lot of maintenance. MB Spares did a great once-over and produced me a list.
Work mainly revolves around the same old culprits (eg. everything rubber underneath needs replacing haha).
Dash mat and new bonnet star acquired.

THE LIST.
So it has new brakes, new drivers side brake line, 4 new brake hoses, 4 new discs, new pads, and 4 rebuilt calipers.
exhaust donuts replaced, done.
boot seal replaced, done.
rear sway bar links replaced, done.
new fuel filter and rear fuel lines, done.
upper and lower control arm bushings, done.
front sway bar bushings, done.
tie rods replaced, done.
re-pack front wheel bearings, TBD (to be done). done.
Drag link, steering damper, replaced TBD. done.
idler arm, TBD. done.
indicator relay, TBD. done.
Fan belts, termostat, TBD.
under bonnet heat mat, TBD.

'Not done'
Tappet adjustment/oil change not done.
injectors hoses not done.
transmission mount not done.
transmission oil leak not done.
transmission hoses not done.
tail-shaft coupling not done.
single reverse light not working not done.
replace diff oil not done.
front sub-frame mounts not done.
rear sub-frame mount not done.
air-con retrofit not done.
air-con repair not done.

'Other lesser (not so lesser) dramas.'
odometer not working, speedometer works.
central locking not working.
vent re-circ lever not working.
electric aerial not working.
wheel alignment required.

'Wanted'
signal red rear right door no rust. (dreams right?)
signal red front left guard no rust.
older model white steering wheel, leather horn pad.
both front door cards/trims in white/cream, no speaker holes.
door rubbers all round.
rebuilt master cylinder.
ugly dash speaker vinyl fix.
spare wheel is original, needs new rubber.

The interior is Cream/White ? I cant find a colour code for it. The codes on the plate are as below.
542 from 01.02.1963 to 29.02.1986 LOCKABLE GLOVE COMPARTMENT
553 from 01.02.1966 to 31.05.1977 DUST SEALING FOR BODY
580 from 01.04.1970 to 31.10.1982 BEHR AIR CONDITIONER
599 from 01.11.1973 to 28.02.1989 " HEAT-INSULATING GLASS FOR SIDE AND REAR WINDOW PANES; SEDAN: HEATED REAR WINDOW PANE, LAMINATED GLASS; STATION WAGON & W 201: HEATED REAR WINDOW PANE, SINGLE-SHEET SAFETY GLASS"
625 from 01.08.1966 VERSION FOR AUSTRALIA
220 from 01.11.1962 to 31.03.1983 REAR DOOR CONTACTS
426 from 01.10.1964 to 29.02.1986 MERCEDES-BENZ POWER STEERING AND AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WITH FLOOR SHIFT
436 from 01.01.1973 to 30.04.1979 ELIMINATION OF FRONT LEFT AND RIGHT AUTOMATIC (SELF-REELING) SAFETY BELTS
466 from 01.04.1970 to 31.10.1993 CENTRAL LOCKING SYSTEM
688 MODEL PLATE INDICATING YEAR OF CONSTRUCTION AND TIRE PRESSURE INSTRUCTIONS IN ENGLISH
568 H, Signal Red, replaced “Red” (519) (yes, just Red) in the late 1960s and was available through the 1970s, 80s and into the 90s.

WOW "THE LIST" makes the car sounds way worse than it is, it drives very well and makes me grin like an idiot every time I cruise it.

Pictures to follow after obligatory 5 posts. Done
Also I have 2 new rear sway bar links and 2 front lower ball joint, 1 upper ball joint, w115 bonnet star, idler arm bushes, new in the packaging PM me if you needs these items as I don't, and I don't want ebay to profiteer from us!

I need them so I am happy to pay, as someone cut speaker holes in mine EWWWW. But can you post/ship/courier them to Canberra? I get parts from unique auto in Melbourne through star track coureirs for a few bucks pretty often. maybe we can use parcelconnect.com.au to sort it out.
