Changing wheels on 280sel

Post by markbraley »

Hello everyone,
I'm new to being a registered member here, but not new to MB ownership. I am currently looking at purchasing a 280sel and I would like to change the wheels from the painted steel hub caps to the Bundt alloy wheel. Has anyone done this before? The set of Bundt's I am looking at are 14 inch 6.5J ET30 I believe. I believe the specs on the wheels that are on the vehicle are 6Jx14. Can this be done ? Are Bundts diffrenr sizes for w123's vs w116's ?
Any help greatly appreciated
Cheers
Mark

Welcome - I'm having a few problems with getting on here with forum issues so hopefully this works.

Yes the 6.5 will fit fine and have no doubt come off a V8 car - the 6 inch on the 6cyl cars and W123 can have 5.5" ones so be careful all the wheels are the same.

Also there are a lot of copy wheels out there, no big deal really but original wheels will have a merdeces part number starting with 108 and these are 'forged' wheels as i understand it. If the have a part number starting with 126, they will fit fine too but are 'cast' wheels.

And just take note if they have centre caps - cost of metal ones can add up and also the bolts to hold them on - all that will cost you extra if not with it.
