Free W123 Melbourne

Post by ADow » Wed 31 Oct, 2018 5:39 pm

My son's W123 is available for anyone who is willing to take it away. A former John Green car and at one stage an official car for the German Consul in Canberra. It's given him 10 years of trouble free motoring but sadly now the trans is on the way out, and there is rust. It's a runner and the engine is sweet but it's either a parts car or a restoration project. If you contact me by PM I'll give you the details. Cheers Alastair

If they start at that early age with a Merc, they're spoiled for life :laughing6: :laughing6:

Here's my grandson with his first Merc (1 year old) :laughing6: ... the grandson, not the car

Both my kids had W123 300Ds as their first car - safe, solid, reliable and with a serious cool factor. My daughter's was traded in for a newer Benz several years ago. My son is now living OS and I live in Adelaide so I can't revive "Hektor" myself. Anyway it looks like he has a new owner from this forum which we are both very happy about. So in some form he will live on.

Hektor will live on to tell another story. Is essentially in good shape body wise (rusted bottom front LH guard not withstanding). Well loved but has lived the hipster indie inner Melb Nth Fitzroy lifestyle for a few (too many) years. The list includes :-

Parts
- Front lights + lenses
- Side Mirrors
- Rear bumper bar and LH Tail light
- Trans
- Front Windscreen
- Brake rotors
- Maybe tie rods and ball joints
- Side strips
- Boot lock actuator
- Glow plugs

All parts I have except rear bar.

Repairs
- Lower LH front Guard Rust
- Lots of dings to be pulled out
- Car has been run into in the derrière so some pulling out required
- Respray same colour (all external items will be removed, not a "mask up" job)
- ODO Stuck
- Front Drivers seat tear
- Glove box not shutting
- Ignition tumbler getting ready to give up
- Replace failed Glow Plugs

Interestingly the boot wouldn't open (wrong key) and the vacuum actuator had a leak on the open side. I pumped air into the lock side of the actuator and it opened. Was able to give Mr ADOW son's friend back the contents of the boot.

Panel beater takes it next Mon for 2 weeks. Gonna be busy between now and Christmas as Santa is gonna give it to my eldest.
