OZBENZ Meet final briefing.

Post by John Green » Sat 15 Sep, 2018 2:45 pm

One week to go to the first ever OZBENZ National meet, here is the final briefing for members (and non members) attending.

OZBENZ Meet final briefing.

Saturday 22/09/2018

The event is run over two days on the 22nd and 23rd of September 2018. It is open to all Mercedes-Benz owners, not just OZBENZ members. There is no formal entrant procedure unless you are coming to the Saturday night event. If only coming for the Sunday just turn up.

We are producing windscreen signs for the event in advance to help the people viewing the cars to learn a little more about them. They are printed and laminated so you can keep them as a moment of the event. if you would like one made up please e-mail the following to john@mbspares.com.au

Model, Year built, Owners name, whats special or interesting about the car.

Here are some examples:

BYO Lunch Cotter Reserve – The Cotter Reserve is about a 20 minute drive from the center of Canberra. You should be able to find it on your GSP as a “point of interest” or just use Goggle maps. When close, you will cross the Murrumbidgee River on a single lane bridge (each direction takes turns), go past the Cotter Camping Ground and then the Cotter Bend picnic area. You will cross the Cotter River and turn right onto Cotter Avenue (not right onto Brindabella Rd). We will be somewhere along there. There is plenty of parking, BBQ facilities and a great playground for younger Mercedes-Benz enthusiasts. We will meet at 12:00 - 12:30pm.
After lunch we will supply directions for a cruise heading South along Paddy’s River Rd, past the Tidbinbilla Tracking Station and Nature reserve.

OZBENZ enthusiasts BBQ – A casual night to be held in the style of the MB Spares, Spanners and Sausages nights, with gourmet sausages from our local butcher. Held at the MB Spares workshop 16 Lyell St Fyshwick from 6:30pm. For those of you who have not attended a Spanners and Sausages event before it is a stand up casual event with a fancy sausage sizzle. This is the only catered event of the weekend at $5.00 per head. Feel free to bring along some nibbles to share. Please remember that it is BYO drinks and that kids are most welcome. You can also BYO chair if standing for too long is an issue.

If attending, please RSVP to john@mbspares.com.au or via a Facebook message. Exact numbers are not that important, but we need a rough idea of how many people will be attending so we know how many sausages to buy.

Sunday 23/09/2018

Early Morning cruise – The morning cruise was supposed to start at Old Parliament House, however we have recently found out that a Fun Run is being held that morning at the same location. The start point has been moved to the National Library carpark. Once again you should be able to find this location by selecting it as a point of interest in your GSP or Goggle maps. Route instructions will be available, and we will leave at 8:30am. Arriving at the German Auto Day around 9:15am. Arrive early for a chat and to pick up your route instructions.

ACT German Auto Day – The event is held at the Pialligo Estate on the banks of the Molonglo River with all cars required to be in position by 9:30am. Catering is available onsite supplied by Pialligo Estate. The address is Cnr of Kallaroo Rd & Dapu Place Pialligo. Entry Onto the ground is $5.00, this is collected by the German Auto Day committee and pays for the toilets and rubbish removal.

If anyone has one of those 3mt X 3mt “pop up” shade tents, we would be grateful if you could bring it along so we can have some shade to sit under. We have arranged a few already, but a few more would be even better.

OZBENZ Show & Shine – Class’s and rules are set out below. Trophies will be announced at 1:30pm (not 2:30 as previously announced) allowing interstate members time to head off home. Sydney is 3hrs down the road and Melbourne around 7-8 hours ideally with 2 drivers, so you can be back at work on Monday. Brisbane and Adelaide guys, you might have to take a day off!

Judging rules.

All cars that attend the meet are considered to have entered whatever classes are applicable to that car. However, some classes will require members displaying the car to provide additional information to be considered for the award, this aspect of the judging is optional. If a member does not want to provide the additional information that is fine. The judging coordinator is Richard Binks (MBCACT Chief Concours judge 2005- 2015) who's decision is final....
