Diagnostic for messages
I have a CLK430 and have been getting the odd message flash on my dash.
From being late for a service to ABS and faulty lights.
With the faulty light, obviously i replaced whichever was gone and that fixed that one.
For being late for the service I found a youtube video showing how to reset that.
But yesterday the ABS light and (warnings that i should go immediately to the dearlership) came on and then after stopping and getting abck in the car, it never came back.
However, leaving the office in the evening I realised my brake lights were stuck on.
I felt the pedal and tried to pull it back, but it wasn't that.
Any ideas?
Also, Does the CLK430 have an OBD port? and where?
Many thanks

Re: Diagnostic for messages
If you do have an OBD II port it will be located adjacent the bonnet release. There will be a little cover over it.
However I suspect that you won’t have one. Just the round 32 pin port in the engine compartment.
You will require a higher end commercial variety scanner to access the codes on this port.
OBD standard was late to the party in Australia.
Suspect your brake light switch mounted on the brake pedal

Re: Diagnostic for messages
Brake lamp switch failure, super common fault. Get a new switch and make sure ot reset it as it is installed as it has an adjustable point at which it is on/off.

Re: Diagnostic for messages
Thank you Ivanerrol and John for the information.
John, is that a common switch or MB unique?
Also when mentioning the about the ESP and ABS warnings, I realised that my cruise control stopped working
Are they all related?

Re: Diagnostic for messages
Cruise Control is usually defeated when brakes are applied; as your brake switch seems to have failed ‘ON’ I suggest Cruise Control thinks brakes are applied...
