Seat cushion replacement – front seat

Post by einar » Tue 28 Aug, 2018 3:28 am

Is replacing the front seat cushion an easy and straight forward DIY-job? Or is it recommended to involve a trimmer/saddler? The upholstery /cloth on the seats are good. I imagine it will just be to remove this, replace the seat cushion and then replace the upholstery. Is it as easy as that, or maybe not? w111, sedan, 1964. Any input appreciated. Thanks.

It is actually quite easy.

If you remove the knob and hinges from the bottom seat, it is free to take off.
Put a blanket on the ground and put the cushion upside down.
The seat cover has a cardboard edge stitched to it.
If you compress the springs in the seat, you can pull the cardboard out of the edge.

Once that is done, the cover can come off. The horse hair cushion might be glued to a cover, but can be taken off fairly easy...
