Post by limited74 » Wed 25 Jul, 2018 3:02 pm

Hi
Chasing an ignition barrel and key for a 8/82 R107 280SL. Part number A1164620279 or a complete good S/H one or even the entire ignition switch assembly.
Car is disabled till I fins a switch.

Hello, this was a duplicate post and the admins have deleted one of them.

Some genius pencil pusher at MB has decided to not have these made anymore. This has the been the case for around 3-4 years, so chance of finding some old stock is very slim. We sold our last one in 2015. Your only chance is to find a complete lock and barrel from an earlier (pre 1978) SL or SLC.

Is that the same for W116 John? A friend was asking me and was telling him he should be able to pick them up cheap, as you can for W126 - I lent him one thinking it might be the same but wasn't.

Same at the late W116, model years 79-80. It is a classic crazy decision where someone got the math wrong in terms of demand. This part fits all the late W116's, including the 6.9 and it is the late version that is the most collectible. It also fits all W107's from 1980 onwards. That's a lot of car still on the road today that you just can't buy an ignition lock barrel for.
