W123 MW series injector pump adjustments

Post by Tony From West Oz » Thu 25 Jan, 2018 5:50 pm

Here are some photos and words which may help those wishing to increase the power from their OM617 (or OM616) - NA or Turbodiesel
This thread relates to adjustments of the MW series IP only! I may be able to provide more information for the M pumps in another thread.

To increase the Max load Fueling;
1. Remove Governor housing cover (with a container to catch the oil from the IP (about 50-100ml), loosen the Locknut (not sure which, 19 or 9mm - try the loosening 19mm first ,then try adjusting 13mm. If 13mm won't move try with 19mm tight and 9mm loose. If still no movement loosen both 9 and 129 mm)
2. Adjust only 1/2 turn before replacing rear cover and checking for power increase / black smoke.
3. Repeat until you get black smoke at full throttle, then screw it out a 1.4 turn.
4. Degrease the IP and check for leaks.

Note, This may cause the idle to increase. If so use the Coarse Idle / high idle adjustment screw to reset the idle.

Should others have better knowledge / contradictory information, please let me know and I will amend the above to suit.

Hi Tony,

How much adjustment did you do to yours and what was the result?

This is the least complicated procedure I've seen for inline IP's like this. Complimentary to it is the link you provided once before in another thread:

Unfortunately, the link to the pump tuning post seems to be broken or missing.
