SEC & LSD
Was there an LSD (not the drug!) option for the 500 SEC 2.24 mechanical anti-squat diff?

Re: SEC & LSD
Yes. Usually if it’s not ASR it’s LSD then.
I have seen open diffs but to me it’s rare find.
LSD=ASD (asd has extra hydraulic pressure for 100% lock up if needed.
Inside is the same. 10pcs of friction discs.
Here’s w124 300-24 asd rear diff. W126 has same diff except the housing.

Re: SEC & LSD
Hi OBH,
My 500SEC (85) has one. It has the option code for an LSD. Can't remember the ratio, CraigB found it printed on the diff it is certainly 2 .something. It was certainly available at the time, not sure how common it is.

It is easier to ask forgiveness than it is to ask for permission!

Re: SEC & LSD
Diff ratio is nothing to do with lsd option.
500 - 2.24
420 - 2.42
560 - 2.65
All ratios could be with LSD/ASR or open diff as well.
If not asr(snow chain button in dash) then look at differetial rear cover. If there is small metal plate under 2 bolts(or one sometimes) bottom right side (sperr differential) then its LSD.

Re: SEC & LSD
All Aussie delivered Gen2 560's came with 2.47 ratio in ASR or LSD
Only private import Euro 300hp 560's came with 2.65LSD as most were out of HK as RHD (some from UK or Japan or S/Africa)

Re: SEC & LSD
Yep, I have never seen a gen 1 500 without 2.24 LSD.
Were you thinking of fitting one to your 380? Its a really tall diff and I would be concerned about what it would do for performance and even economy. Personally i think it is too tall even for the 500 and the 2.47 of later 500/560 a much better ratio. 2.65 gives that extra performance though as fitted to the hi comp 560. But then there are other tricks putting gen 2 ratio into gen 1.... do a search, lots of discussion on that!

Re: SEC & LSD
Thanks, Gents, for the replies.
I haven't yet been able to crawl under the donor vehicle to check for the LSD markings (it's in a close-packed scrum of cars), but am hoping it is. It's part of a complete 500 drivetrain that I'm considering. My 380 has LSD 2.47, and I'd rather not sacrifice the limited-slip facility if I don't have to.
Cheers :-)

Re: SEC & LSD
even if you went with 500 motor/trans, I would definitely stick with your 2.47. Its not like it is any weaker or anything and unless you plan on driving on autobahns. My 380SEC has a 3.something LSD and while I don't mind the sprightly nature it gives the car, it isn't as relaxed on the open road. I wrecked a 380sl and was interested to find a 2.47 lsd in it, but maybe that is a more common 380 ratio and this other one is odd?
