CLK500 Indicator Issues & Clock Issues

Post by hellohello123 » Tue 02 Aug, 2016 1:12 pm

Hi everyone, im a Mercedes Newbie, European Car Newbie and a technical newbie, so please be kind!

Ive now become the proud owner of a 2003 CLK500 Coupe and I love it, I have a few issues that I need to fix, hopefully on a budget, so any tips would be appreciated:wink

the first 2 problems im mentioning is

1. the indicators dont stick down on both left and right when the steering wheel is straight, only when the wheel is turned, and hence its causing a problem for the roadworthy, is there a simple fix for this?

2. Unable to change the clock, have googled, youtubed everything, but there doesnt seem to be a clock setting, I dont mind it not working, but would rather it be working than not

Thank you everyone

Welcome mister Hello to the friendliest carsite in Oz.

First of all a bit of generic advise: fill on your details on your account, so people know where you live and they might be able to point you to a local specialist.

About your indicators:

They are being reset by a protrusion on the steering shaft or a boss on the steering wheel.

Have you got an aftermarket steering wheel on this car? Is it straight when you are driving in a straight line?
That could be the cause.

I cannot help you on the clock sorry...

Hi nameless,

I guess you have the command system in it? If that's the case press "Sys" or "System", there you find the clock ...

Have the same indicator problem, but only turning right.
I found a reference to the clock thing - my car was originally supplied with a Command system, but had an aftermarket system when I got it. The car is still programmed to believe it is Command equipped, so the clock setting menu item does not come up using the steering wheel control menus. Apparently you can fix this by having somebody with a Star system re-programme the car to think it has an Audio 20 system. Then the clock set magically appears in the dash menu. It's a 180km round trip to the nearest MB place so I haven't called to find out which of the children I'll need to sell to pay for that job.

I had the historic codes on my CLK reset this morning. When they did it I asked if they could change the system to think there's a non-COMAND system in there, such as an Audio20. They were able to do this without a link back to MB and now my clock can be (and has been) set. $99.
As for the indicator, I've bought a new control stalk and switch assembly. The place I bought it knew exactly what was wrong as soon as I asked for one, seemed to think it's a common failure.

So Peter,

you still have all your kids? :laughing6: ... if you'd sell them in bulk, maybe you can upgrade again to a command :laughing6:

When my kids were young, I guess I would have to pay for someone to take them ...

A long time ago you could, just, get away with selling just one child. That would cover everything for 30-40 years.

Now you'll have to sell one for the servicing, one for electronics, one for depreciation. And start again in 7 years. :)
