I just bought this, for some reason

Post by svengali0 » Wed 09 Mar, 2016 10:19 pm

Now I only have to drive 2000km to retrieve it.
I have a dead OM605.960 here from my W202 (yes- there's another story) that i can't bring myself to do anything other than rebuild. It would be a lovely donor engine to the 1981 M110 W460.
Wondering about gearbox choices though. I don't want to go to manual (my L/R 130 serves that purpose). I can't go to the 722.6 five speed unless I find the dedicated item for the G. I'd like to keep the four speed presently attached.
I believe I will need a rear left and right door for this W460 among other things- but it is nearly all there.
It's provenance is uncertain- apparently having served some time after delivery from Graz to the US, it came here and was serving time as a potential parts source from someone with a OM617 powered G300GD. he took the lights and some of the brake linings for all the years that he had it.
Anyway. Suggestions and comments are welcome. Yes I have not actually seen it yet so might be in for rude awakening. Still, for the money it owes I'm not entitled to expect anything. Here's hoping.

I would say the AGOA guys would have a reasonably good idea. wouldn't hurt to ask.

the 722.6 is what you want, but ideally you want a VG150 TC, as it has full time 4wd, like your 130.

depends what you want to do with it I guess....?

Thanks for the heads up in respect of that transfer case type code- I've grown used to f/t four wheel drive.
I'd love to use the later five speed but as I understand it, the later G type box is different in two respects from passenger car applications. The electrics are likely to be over my capacity to deal with too. The intended power plant would have the OM602 injection pump so that part is sortable.

If I can, I'd like to refurbish and use this vehicle. The state of the body is yet not clearly determined but, I am not stranger to extensive rust repairs given the various other German, Italian and French offerings I have retrieved from oblivion over the years. I think it will be unlikely that I'll be keeping it 'original' as such. brief conversation with John green yesterday and he stated that this 722 four speed will bolt up to a 617. So that's an option.

I'll check the AGOA fellows presently.
Cheers steu
