ALL GERMAN CAR DAY WA - SUNDAY 22ND SEPT

I have started this thread up a month out before this event rolls up, so we get the word out to Perth Merc owners to see if they can plan ahead for the day and make it.
I am not a member of the MBCCWA ( i must join one day) and went along last year to have a look as a spectator and the the club welcomed me to join in (the event is run by MBCCWA) and ended up parking the 500SEC amongst all the other great selection of Mercs from vintage to modern.

I would love to see if we can russle up a good possie of members on this forum located in WA to try and make the day.
The Merc club do an organised club run from a designated central Perth location and drive in a "big convoy" on a planned long way around method to get to Northam which takes i fair bit of organising.

If there were any other non members who wanted to discuss with me to meet at a designated spot we could just do our own run straight up great eastern highway to Northam in a smaller group which would be fun. I would particularly like to get as many W126's as possible to come along and make a presence as not many turned up last year, but all models most welcome to do a run up there.

The other clubs members mostly like to do their own run as well and the porsche guys in particular like to stick together (some real nice period models turned up in numbers last year which was good)
I loved seeing the VW's and in particular the restored Combi's which brought back memories of my teenage years going down to Margaret River surfing.

So can we start a show of hands and models that we can russle up here to try and make this a great day with more Mercs.
We will let the MBCWA know in advance once we have some interest (i might even join before the event but it is not necessary as long as you pay a $10 entrance fee on the day park on the oval)

Don't be put off thinking your car has to be a show queen as there are a lot of daily drivers that see plenty of roads and wear & tear to prove it that join in.
Nobody cares as it is more a fun day to chill out and wander around as great mix of Euro cars only to see

Found some pics on the Porsche club forum from last years event including one that has my SEC in the background.

The event at Northam this will start at 10.00am and go until 4pm, so it allows a reasonable start time from Perth and an hours drive to Northam up the great Eastern highway which is dual lanes most of the way, so a pleasant drive thru the hills

Hey Kim,

I'll definitely be going along, haven't been to the German Car Day in about 10 years, so should be good to see how it has grown. Hopefully I'll take along the red 560SEL.

As you mentioned, the event is run by the MBCCWA, of which I have recently joined. Originally, the event always took place in York before it was moved to Northam. Last year I believe they met at the WACA car park, where instructions were given for the next meeting point, which was Mandurah if I'm not mistaken. This was for all attendees not just the MBCCWA folks. This year's event is to follow the same format.

Stuff knows why MBCCWA try to do this secret end location (Northam i have been informed for this year) for the car meet each year?
It means they can't advertise to the general public where the day is being held, so no public ever knows where to go to see such a a great display of Euro cars (go figure that out??)

I toatally agree Kim. Makes it difficult to plan the day for those that have a near two hour drive, like myself and Clyde, to the start and then not knowing where you may end up.

Also with the change of date it's not working for me as it's the week of that both my daughters birthdays. Make it even more difficult.

One of the VW members told me but considering its location is kept as a "secret" until the event morning don't quote me as he could be wrong.
Reading a few of the other club websites it appears very frustrating to all of them for such a big event
(family, friends, general public, press etc do not know where it is to be held and can't plan ahead to schedule their day for a visit due to secret location)

I've come to the decision, if I don't know where it's being held I'll boycott until they change the format.

It may as well be held in Telfer.

Ok this event day is lurking closer now.
I have been in touch with the president of the MB car club here in WA and had a chat.
I can understand his reasoning more on the format of the day now.
Their intention is really for this to be a fun day of all the German car clubs coming together for a "convoy run together " rather than it be just another "show & shine" static day.
The secret end destination is aimed to limit the number of owners just driving direct to the end destination from home and parking up.
The run is designed to take around 1hr or less and showcase the cars on the go in convoy to the public (who happen to be up at 9.30am) and the end destination is aimed more of a gathering of the different car club owners to mix and enjoy each others cars/company rather than it be a "public display" advertised event.

The Merc public static display event in Northbridge comes up the following month.

So do we have anyone on this forum in Perth besides me who is going to turn up at the Queens Gardens car park at 8.30am (time to have a gawk first) for departure at 9.30am in convoy?

Woke up early this morning and the weather is terrible - heavy rain and blustery windy day.
Forecast is continuing heavy showers in the morning and more rain throughout the day with continuing blustery winds for the day.

I never take my white coupe out when rain is forecast and it has never seen rain since i have owned it, so i am pulling out from going as it is unfortunately going to be a bleak wet day which is not my idea of fun
Will aim for the Mercedes show & shine day in Northbridge coming up later in the next few months

Nice to meet you on Sunday Kim, shame you couldn't make it to Yanchep as the setting with all the cars parked around the Yanchep Inn was rather nice.

Yes great to catch up and pity about the weather.
I noticed driving home north on the freeway when it was raining very heavy- a car heading south on the other side around Osborne area had just lost control on an on ramp and gone over the embankment and crashed into trees.

I would love to get a cars & coffee meet happening going forward for an occasional Sunday morning as we head into nice weather but will start another thread
