Celebrating 30 Years of the G-Wagen in Australia
The Mercedes-Benz Geländewagen or G-Wagen as it is better known, commenced production at the Graz, factory of Steyr Daimler Puch in 1979, however it wasn’t until 1982 that Mercedes-Benz Australia released the vehicle to the Australian public. Thirty years on and the G-Wagen is well and truly back in Australia following a 23 year hiatus.
The Australian Geländewagen Owners Association (AGOA) in partnership with the Mercedes-Benz Club of Victoria (MBCV), are celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the G-Wagen in Australia and hope is to bring owners, enthusiasts and G-Wagens from all around the country to celebrate the milestone for this iconic vehicle on the weekend of the 24th & 25th of November 2012.
Following on from the success of the AGOA Treffen 2007, the 2012 event will be based around the Victorian town of Mansfield and the nearby Mt Terrible, where the vehicle was originally released to the press in 1982. There will be public vehicle displays at the Mansfield Botanical Park on both mornings, which will be followed by some 4x4 touring in the local high country. Saturday evening, a Mansfield Bistro will play host to the participants and a breakfast will be available for them at the Botanic Park on Sunday morning.
The primary focus of this event is the Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen, and owners from around the country are invited and welcome to register for what should be one of the biggest collections of these iconic vehicles in Australia. Mercedes-Benz Australia Pacific will also have some ‘special’ G-Wagens on display.
For more details or Registration details please see the AGOA web site at http://www.agoa.org.au Email agoa.gwagen@gmail.com or telephone John Kenny on 0417 544 828 or contact the MBCV 4x4 register
