MB Club of SA - Classic Day - Come and have a look!

Post by pastelgrey300D »

The SA club will be holding its 'Classic Day' on Sunday the 14th of October from 10:00am to Midday. This will be held in the carpark adjacent to our clubrooms, on Clark Avenue, Glandore.

This event is where club members bring and display their cars and compete for show and shine awards. We welcome all spectators and members of the public are most welcome to come and view the cars on display (there are no entry fees - it is a totally free event). Ample parking is available along Clark avenue and Naldera street.

As we have limited space in our carpark, vehicle entry for this event is open to current club members only - however we are looking at expanding this event next year to allow non-club members to display their vehicles and enter the award categories - unfortunately we were running out of time to organise this years event and were not able to find a larger venue in time.

If you are a club member, cars arrive between 9:30am and 10:00am, judging commences at 10:30am. Presentations and a BBQ lunch to follow. Refer to the September / October magazine for more information. It is free to display your car and enter any of the show and shine award categories relevant to your car.

So if you are not doing anything on October 14th, feel free to drop in and have a look! Here are some photos from previous years' events:

You beat me to it by about 5 minutes!!!

Weather was absolutely perfect, but our turnout was a little disappointing - only around 16 cars - still, those that did show up had a great time.

R107s seemed to be the flavour of the day, we had 4 turn up - the interior of the beige one was fully retrimmed and only finished on Friday, so that got plenty of attention.

Only 1 W123 and W116 turned up but they were both in great condition. We had two very recent E250 Cabs show up, one even had a matching trailer!

Ha! I've just posted some separate pics of the 190 in the Finnie subforum - it's the first time I've waxed the car and polished all the chrome since it was resprayed - see the 'Fin190' thread for more pics.

David,

Who owns the 190SL (PM me if you would rather not make it public)? That looks a lot like the white with black interior 190SL coupe my father-in-law owned and restored in the 1980s. He was a member of the MBCQld back then and the car picked up numerous concours awards. He sold it for far too little money a number of years back (when I found out how little I wished I had bought it from him). Soon after it appeared on a lot on the Gold Coast with a much higher price on the windscreen. Then it appeared at an auction at a Sydney motorshow where the bidding went to about $70k but I don't believe it sold. The last my father-in-law heard was that it had gone to South Australia, hence me wondering if this is the car. I have attached a scan of an old print of the car at a MBCQld concourse from around 1990.

I don't know the owner personally but I'll make some enquiries and pass on their details to you - if they don't already know the history of the car I'm sure they'd be keen to find out. That QLD number plate is nice!
