Firstly I'd like to apologise if this question has been answered before but if possible I would like some information regarding the new E Class (2011).
I am thinking of purchasing a current model E Class and/or S Class (2011). The country of purchase will be Japan but I plan to send this car back to Australia. I called Mercedes Benz in Japan and they were telling me that different countries/continents use different systems and they are not able to be used across different regions.
My questions are:
1) Is there a way to change the navigation system to be usable in Australia as all Japanese cars come standard with navigation units?
2) If yes, could you please point me in the right direction regarding this?
Thanks for your time.

Apart from the command being differant the FM radio band operates in a differant range in Japan, so would be a bit of a drama. How are you doing to import it?? Have you read this topic:

Hi John,
Thanks for the reply.
I looked into the radio bit and it seems that an FM Expander will fix the radio issue.
I am working overseas now so I can bring it back with me when I go back to Australia.

There are so many computerized components in these cars, that I would suggest that there maybe some software rearrangements to be made.
It could be that worldwide software is in place and only requires a reprogram for "Australian configuration"

That's what I'm hoping for, some internationalised software which could be flashed with the Australian software... But I suppose without bringing one back no one really knows.... the worst case scenario would be a total change of face and screen.... and that I've been told by MB Australia would be really costly
