Since my W123 came to the end of its life after a confrontation with a bus, I'm thinking about a W210 E240 or E320. 1997-1999 model with service history and under 160,000K's. Seen a few around the $9-$13K mark. I'll have the car checked over by a merc specialist prior to purchase.
Anything I should be wary of and any tips for general upkeep/maintenance?
Cheers, Reg

Re: Considering E240/E320
Hi
Higher mileage 210's usually will need the engine/ gearbox mounts replaced. When you get a pre-purchase make sure they check the front ball joints, they are common to go, so is the idler arm bush. engine side of things, there are two sorts of engines. The pre 97 uses the W124 engine and the later uses the newer engine which has 2 spark plugs per cylinder. On your major service it will hurt. Another common thing is the Brake light switch, it will give you a fault saying BAS ESP error. That is very common. Also make sure the wiper motor is in good nick, on services they should lubricate it to prevent damage.
Apart from that it is quite stable and reliable, but i guess in any car, service history and pre-purchase will help you more than anything so you more or less know what you need to spend.
Hope i have helped
