Monthly Informal Run / Cruise Adelaide

Post by pastelgrey300D » Thu 27 May, 2010 12:03 pm

Casual/informal Run organized by Paul Charal of the Mercedes Benz Club of SA - The first Sunday in the month meet at the Burnside Town Hall Library car park (cnr Portrush and Greenhill rd) at 10.00 am for a leisurely drive - exact route decided on the day, (rain, hail or shine!). I spoke to Paul at the last club meeting and he would love to see as many people there as possible, you don't have to be a club member, you don't need a show car (so perfect if you have a 280S with faded paint! ), in fact you don't even need to bring a benz! Just come along and say hi!

Last few runs have seen a mix of 6-12 cars, from 107's to late model daily drivers and some very early cars too!

Next one set for 6th June, then 4th July, 1st August. As I have a final semester project due on June 15th, I won't be able to make the 6th, but will more than likely be putting in regular appearances at each run after that! Hope to see plenty fellow Adelaidean ozbenzers there - it's been too long since the last get together and I reckon a regular informal run like this is a fantastic idea!

After yesterday I thought I should post some pics to entice the other Adelaide ozbenzers out! A great chance to drool over some Auto porn and give your car a nice long run! As mentioned before, you don't need a benz (or an immaculate one) and absolutely everyone is welcome!

Absolute perfect crusing weather, the convoy ended up heading to victor harbour (although I wussed out halfway because I have been moving house this weekend and was very time poor!).

Some very nice cars turned up - this was a bit of a surprise - a W187 220 in showroom condition! I have whitewall envy!

Also a nice red R107

Dennis Butler's immaculate 230S finnie and Rich Williamsons' equally spotless 180D

My Finnie, flags flying!

Another very nice C107

Hope to see a few more of you out next time! For the run down to Aldinga two months ago we had a very diverse group of nearly 20 cars turn up which was fantastic!

The informal runs continue, here are some shots from the weekend just past – our destination was Talunga winery on Gorge road, just outside Gumeracha. Words don’t do it justice, the drive was just spectacular – perfect cruising weather with not a cloud in the sky and temperatures in the mid 20s. Fantastic scenery with lots of twists and turns. A very diverse group of 10 cars turned up spanning over 50 years of production.

SLK, W126, W187 220, R107 and R129 SL models.

Interior of the W187 220 – a previous owner apparently spent 250k on the restoration (!!!) – the pictures do not do it justice, you could eat off this car (but you wouldn’t, because the food would slide off the finish, and the quality and caliber of the car would make the food seem too ordinary). Was first owned by Argentinean royalty… pedigree much?! A lovingly handcrafted, perfectly restored car.

Picture perfect! Certainly was top down weather!

Another perfect day in Adelaide Hills wine country!

The only complaint I could think of was that for such a perfect day for cruising, why we didn’t have more than 10 cars! As mentioned before, everyone is welcome on the informal runs, you don’t have to be a club member and it is a great chance to come and see some very nice cars, give your car a good solid run to get rid of all that low-speed-driving-buildup and then enjoy a coffee/meal/drink with some like-minded enthusiasts. Looking forward to the next one!

I love the concept of these runs, and supported the early ones but then I foolish let other things get in the way! I might try and remind myself and post a reminder to others just before the day in case that helps. I especially like the runs where you get non-club people adding to the mix, and no pressure to join - just all about the cars etc. Even better if you know there will be some of the hard core 'car' people there to have boring conversations with!

Cheers Craig, it is a very easy sunday morning, these guys are good at picking nice spots for coffee and morning tea too - so it's a very sociable and casual way to wake up! I realise that the timing might be a little tricky too - I struggle to get out of bed by 9.00 on most weekends let alone drive out to Burnside by then... but it has been good motivation for me to take the Finnie on some long, regular drives - it would have sat there a long while otherwise!
