Nice car Linc. You're right about the wheels. You'd have to wear your baseball cap backwards and have long baggy shorts pulled down far enough to show your crack to keep those wheels!

My UK Import 1986 420 SEC with 113,000 kms, car was a demo then owned by Moody blues singer for 25 years, so that makes me the 3rd owner and an average of 4350 km per year.

Well here she is, my pride and joy. 1991 420SEL. 702M Smoke Silver 702/9702 Gloss + DB7176 Gray Metallic Matt. Looks like champagne to the trained eye ;0)

Two previous owners, well loved and cared for... I am working on various bits and pieces but all in good time... Really enjoy the drive and the time I am spending and learning. I work in Auto industry in paint so if you need any technical help PM.

Grand old lady... AKA Das Golden Auto (Goldie when she's been good).

163,000 km on the clock. Mostly everything except Aircon works. Maybe it just out of gas as not used much past 4 years. A few glitches here and there but otherwise in great shape.

I need to tackle service and tidy up paint grazes and repaint the rims.

Interior needs a treatment but not likely to see the sun much over next few months. Leather is really good shape as are the wooden panels, sign of being kept out of the light.

PM on whether the phone stays or goes!?

Here is my work in progress, a 1991 560SE, which has been retrieved from long term 'storage' at the Dubai municipality impound... so far I have managed to get it running after 4 years of sitting but lots of smoke and not happy idling so replacing the injectors and some other bits this weekend. Plan is to fix it up and drive it!

update - - this car is now SOLD

Meet Hermann! :love4:

1986 560SEC. Aus delivered.

The car is in lovely condition for its age. I bought her off an old guy who had her since 89! Very clean and unmolested example. And all I can say is that I got her for an absolute steal!

Interior needs a bit of work (drivers seat worn) and burlwood lower console cracked - but these things are minor

Stay tuned for the bring back to awesomeness thread! Restoring Hermann to concours condition.

PS thanks for all the wise words from Kim and the rest of the ozbenz gang. Certainly worth the wait.

I must have seen all of the SEC currently offered for sale. All I can say is buyer beware!

Looking forward to contributing to the forum!

Those Pentas would have been the bomb back in '89! 24 years ago the elderly gent may have been a 'real funky guy!'

Great to see you've found a good one - and be sure to check out carl888's thread on his 380SE as he has spent a lot of time repairing and refinishing his woodgrain and has posted lots of pics.

Nice SEC! :occasion5:

Yes- the wheels are on the to go list when I find the babies I am after - don't stress guys - the car will pay homage to the brand so no fully sick rims bro here....

Yes certainly a lot of searching to be done!

I'm a little puzzled. You mention Aus delivered but in one of your photos both the head lights and fog lights are operating. For a long period prior to about 1993 Australia (along with a few other markets including Switzerland where my 500SLC was delivered new) had a design rule which did not allow the front fog lights to be switched on with the head lights (a sensible rule in my opinion). The fog lights could only be used together with the parking lights and Aus deliveries were wired accordingly. Much of the rest of the world allowed the fog lights to be used with the parking lights or head lights, except for the USA which strangely only allowed the fog lights to operate if the head lights were also operating (just another weird US rule to go along with their ugly huge bumpers, amber corner marker lamps and sealed beam headlights).

HI Greg,

Ahh - the photo is deceiveing. The main beams are not actually on in the pic (Iphones are crap at picking up light). The 'parkers' are on in the main headlight (1st click) and the foglights are on. As soon as you switch the headlights "on", the foglights go off.

Nope - she is definitely Aus delivered. Have all the papers and tags to prove it. Josef (the previous owner) had quite a few records to show me, including the purchase receipt from MB (in Sutherland I think) back in 89! $$$ :book:

That all sounds as it should and is consistent with an Aus delivered car. Amazing how bright those parkers appeared in the photo.

Basically money... I got offered a graduate job, but it only starts in March 2014. Till then I have 5 months unemployed as the hospital terminates my contract as soon as I graduate so I can no longer work as an assistant.

In the words of Jake the Mus " .... beautitful". Actually, he puts it a bit more strongly than that, but as this is a family-orientated forum (22 seconds into this clip):

IMHO the W126 series is the most undervalued of all Mercedes - and I'm not biased as I don't have one.

Star Shots! - Show us your Ride

Post by McGavin » Fri 25 Apr, 2014 4:08 pm

Purchased about 6 weeks ago, 'spotter' convinced me to drag it out of the shed for a photo shoot. ;)
1988 500 SEC, 195 kW version , smoked silver, 'lovely mushroom ' interior, in need of routine maintenance, a few missing/damaged trim items.
But importantly , (to me anyway) straight and corrosion free.

Looks good Dirk - just needs those rims swapped out down the track when you save up some cash.

Yep it's definitely Diamond Blue and it looks really nice being IMO one of the best colours for a w126. Unfortunately I'm also a little biased as I have a Diamond Blue 87 420SEL in the back yard that's being stripped for spares............ I loved that car.... :wall:

Hey Dirk,

I must have missed your post re your 500SEC!

Yes, I had to keep my mouth shut about your purchase as I was sworn to OZBENZ secrecy! Looks great! Good on you as you were looking long enough for one.
No need to tell you what to have checked first!
Cheers

Thanks Kim, not going to bother checking......

Just going to replace. :)
Shed goes up Wednesday , concrete and power to follow, then I can start work on 'it'.
Frank n Beans, love the colour, that blue or black is how I picture these cars, although that petrol blue in another thread does look good too.

Thanks for the compliments guys, yes the colour is Diamond Blue, with the light tan leather, the interior is immaculate, its hard to believe that it has stood up so well , obviosly great engineering and careful owners.
Thankfully the previous owner had kept the original wheels and radio, so I have those too, it has its untouched first aid kit, plus a full service history, the only change at the moment is the rear sits a little low for my likeing
