New member - back in a 500sec
Hi all, as the title states, I recently picked myself up an Irish import 500sec. Needs some tlc to get back on the road so looking forward to getting some knowledge on the nitty gritty of their resto work :)

Welcome. That's interesting, not heard of an Irish import but of course they had them. Is it gen 1 or 2 ie. before or after 85? I think gen 1 imports may be more common because you could only buy a 380 here.

Gen 1. It’s an 83. Vin says originally ordered in Ireland so I’m assuming it’s an Irish import! Has cloth interior too.

Hi Mate,
Great choice of car!
Let me know if you're chasing any parts, I'm still cleaning out my shed from when I restored my 560 SEC and have a few bit and pieces surplus to my needs.
Post a couple of pics when you get a chance.
Regards
Dean

Sorry to butt in, but do you have a spare driver's side seat switch? I assume a switch off a 560sec would still fit a 380sec?
Cheers

Hi Kim,
Sorry cant help with the door switches.
Something to keep in mind is the difference between the Gen 1 and Gen 2 seat switches as the Gen 2 has the seat position memory function.

Re: New member - back in a 500sec
Hi dean, yes I would be very interested please! Let me know what you’ve got but I’d probably need a lot anyway haha. I’ve decided to try and keep the brasil velour interior as it’s grown on me and it’s nice to be a bit different.
I’ll try and attach pics. Needs some tidying but should be fun.
I’ve bought some amg aero 2 split wheels but we’re for the w140 I think so I’ll need soacers anyway

Re: New member - back in a 500sec
That's a nice Champagne colour 500 Mr Issa!
I've never seen that seat colour combination before. Can anyone confirm if that was a factory combination?
Could I suggest you might like to consider wheels like these five holers? Just using a stock photo for reference. I'm not selling any.
Cheers,
Kim

Found a rust hole in the chassis. I’ll tackle it next week.
Test fitting the amg wheels. Needs spacers.

Are Wheel Spacers illegal in Vic ? Likely to Void your insurance if in an accident.
Can you post a pic of chassis rust you found.

I can't think of the word but you can space using a concentric spacer or something they are called and that is legal. Its important the centre of the wheel is sitting on the right sort of ridge and not just hanging on wheels studs spaced out by a bit of ally.

Hey Mr Issa,
Those five holers really suit the W126 SEC model.
Much easier to clean than the factory 15 hole manhole rims! Well done!
Cheers and beers,
Kim
