Vandalised Hood Ornament

Post by altazero »

I'm sick of having my hood ornament snapped off by vandals and was thinking about replacing the star type with the flush type used in later models. Does anyone know which part would work? Appreciate any advice - thanks.

I feel your pain Brad :angry4: :angry5: :angryfire: Best option is to fit a new star and then sharpen the inner section of the upper part of the circle to a razor shape edge. :occasion5:

Yes, just as evil is insulating the ornament and connecting it to a Extra High Tension power supply retrieved from an old CRT TV set - a jolt of around 10,000 to 25,000 volts :violent1:

remember, it needs to be rubber insulated from the bonnet when you connect it to a voltage source.

legal limits are 110V DC and 48V AC if i remember correctly for the potential danger barrier of human skin not being able to protect against....

Pish, pash, legalities...

... of course there would be some safety device to detect if the thief was stealing legally. :jokercolor:

BTW it is NOT voltage that kills, its CURRENT .... more than around 45mA flowing through your heart will kill at pretty well any voltage.

Remarkably it is possible to survive ultra high voltage shocks (albeit with some pain) when the current is limited or low.

One of these should do the trick - easily wired in, legal for street use, wont kill the culprit but will give them something else to think about

Ah! The good old electric fencing!

Yes it does not kill you, even if you piss on it.

And I know that from experience :laughing6: :laughing6:

Some come with their own battery.

Just replace it with one like this. Nobody will bother touching it.

I have a friend who had the same problem with his W126 420SE.

He put a little removeable sign at the bottom of the front windscreen each time he parked which said:

"This car is being monitored by hidden on-board CCTV cameras."

He never lost a star after that.
