Jeez, a C111 on display in Mt Gambier?
The whole town must have come out to see. Or did a local purchase one?

Hi Bart
I started my working life in 1970 at Repco as a delivery person and would go to Marian motors [now carlin and Gazzard ] all the time but never seen or heard about this. The car was on display at the show hall, I would say it must have done a tour of mrec dealers I don't think they ever went into production ?

Re: C111
The C111 was used as a test platform for many parts in forthcoming models.
I rmember the motoring journalists drooling over the C111 when it came out.
Pity MB never put it onto production. I believe the 70’s oil crisis probably had something to do with it.

Re: C111
I remember seeing one in the Mercedes Museum in Stuttgart.
Jay Leno has an episode on one.
The test platform was used to test a Diesel, a Wankel (rotary) version and then they came out with a V12 version

I recall reading an article about these that mentioned Erich Waxenberger (I think) using one for a while as a company car. Would have been uber cool.

Re: C111
The Penta front rim in deep dish looks awesome (must be a 9inch width)
Pity we can't see the rear rim to see if it was an even wider custom version in 10inch?
WB Penta rims weren't around back then in 1971 but perhaps in one-off custom version ordered for the C111

Re: C111
That C111 was wearing a massive width rear Penta style rim and tyre combo
Looks like the rear rim was a 16inch but the tyre width was huge for back then - even the front tyre was wide
Must have been the same tyres that were made specially for the Lambo

Re: C111
I had a look at a few old pictures of mine as I knew I had a photo of the rim.
?3 x 16H . It looks like it is 15 stamped on the rim but I think it is more likely a soft stamped 16.

Perhaps where Pinninfarina drew inspiration for the rear grilles used on the Testarossa and 348 Ferraris?
