Thanks, Chai, but it's nowhere to be found in my maintenance manual for all models 1981–1993 (317 pages), which includes the 126 series. I looked there first.

Is the service manual a different document from the maintenance manual?

Even my mechanic, who knows most things about Benzes and maintains mine for the bits I can't do myself, only knows the fuel-pump relay. I replaced that recently.

Thanks, IE. :-) It's a start. Although it's from a very different series and model, I'll use it as a guide and start pulling mine one at a time to see if those in the pic correlate to mine. The only immediately obvious difference is the air injector relay, which mine neither has nor needs.

That thread made for some, er, interesting reading. LOL

Tried that numerous times and found nothing readable or relevant out of many hits. The nearest I found was for a 1986 US 560, and it looked nothing like my box. Another was an empty box, nothing in it, not even labels.

There were plenty for the fuses, but I already know those. It’s the relays that I’m trying to identify.

Many of the diagrams I found were schematics that gave me no clue to the concrete reality of my photo.

With lousy internet (where’s the No Bloody Network that’s six months behind schedule?!) – a 60 ms ping and 0.3 Mbps download speed – it’s a painful and often futile process, which is why I asked here after many fruitless searches.

Replying from home so no access to books. The red one is the overload protection relay. The others should be easy to work out by deduction, pull a relay and then check what doesn't work. Or rely of me remembering this on Monday morning and having enough time to look for the diagram.

Of all that I've seen, that diagram most resembles my box; the only item there that mine doesn't have is the air injection relay, which of courses my SEC doesn't need.

I'll start pulling them tomorrow to confirm what's what.

I wonder why, when the fuse list inside the box lid is comprehensive, no-one bothered to include the relays.

Recently I made a new fuse list; the old one was was tatty and grubby beyond legibility. I scanned the original but couldn't even clean it up in Photoshop, so used the scan as a template and typed / redrew the entire thing (font is good old Helvetica), printed it on light card, laminated it, and put it where it belonged. Better than a new one.

Once I confirm the relays I'll amend and extend that card to include them.

Just a tad I would hope, though I have little faith in what has been a right fornication-up.

I've always enjoyed good internets speeds; at my previous address of nine years I got a constant 13 Mbps with a 30 ms ping – and that was ADSL on rotten old copper wire that ran across cow paddocks. Where I am now there is no phone line, and NBN was due in December, Ha! I'm having to rely on WiFi connections – one through Hopeless (Optus) and one through Hellstra. They are both extremely flaky. Hellstra was recently off the air for five weeks with no explanation.

I plan to be here till the end of the year, so I hope NBN gets their act together sooner than later. Right now it's taking me longer to load a page than when I had dial-up back in the early 90s.

Pulled relays today to confirm what was on the diagram, John. All were as labelled, so I made myself a relay card to complement the fuse card. Both now laminated and stuck inside the lid.

The actual card is sharp, hi-res, but here is a fuzzy jpeg to give the idea.
