Now that is one rare and interesting Canada based pearl black coupe in top condition up on ebay USA with starting bids of US$10,000
Cars go cheap over there and worth importing and keeping LHD (or even perhaps worth getting a conversion done)
Great looking coupe

They are an appealing R129 and I remember admiring a similar car owned by a South Australian MB Club member at a previous MB Clubs National Rally.

It's probably the more interesting car than a SL600 ... there were a few station wagons S210 available with that motor, pretty rare too.

When I first saw the SL60 engine, I was surprised to see a car as late as that still running KE-Jetronic. Interesting that whilst there was the V12 600SL/SL600, AMG opted to use the V8 for their SL60.

I guess it's because the V12 is just very heavy and does not make a sports car out of it. The SL60 is nearly as powerful (381hp), but less weight and a great sound.

It's an interesting development: a R129 500SL was a fantastically powered car in the 90s, the SL60 was high performance and the SL73 was beyond everything else.

These days an A45 AMG has 360hp, 0-100 around 4.5 seconds ... and all that with a 2-litre 4-cylinder. Not that I appreciate these motors, but it's amazing, how it goes higher and higher. I remember when the W124 was released, the 200D power increased from 60 to 75hp ... it was a rocket for the Diesel-drivers in those days!

I think 92-93 was the phase out of KE and the move to EFI.
Early M119's with KE are fairly desirable insofar that they are a relatively easy bolt in option for cars with KE jet.

Which is why I was surprised to see KE-Jetronic in the SL60. HFM injection replaced KE-Jet prior to the change in badge convention of letters before numbers. For example, in the W124 HFM injection was introduced in 1992 on the M104 engine to give us the 320E which later became the E320 (in 1993). I therefore assumed the R129 would have changed to HFM in the 500SL before it became the SL500. Given this topic is however about a 1991 model wearing the SL60 badge, I can only assume that AMG adopted that badge convention sooner than the regular models as 1991 still saw the use of KE-Jetronic.
