2.3 16v

Post by Jelfes » Thu 23 Aug, 2012 12:00 pm

I've been hunting around for another 190E 2.3 16v for a while now and there is one listed on eBay at the moment in Queensland the seems to be a pretty good depending on the reserve price.

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/MERCEDES-190 ... 1278wt_922

Has anyone ever had a look at this car and do they think it's in good condition as I can't look at it because I live in another state and I am current overseas?

If anyone has any information on the they could post or send me a private message not offend the owner it would be appreciated?

Taking your life in your hands.

If you're overseas and can't get to it, let it go.

If it were me, I wouldn't trust another set of eyes other than my own.

These things have dozens of little hidden secrets costing huge dollars to fix that can easily be missed by even an experienced MB mechanic. Remember they weren't brought to Australia as a factory model - all of them are import vehicles from another domestic market. The relative rarity here coupled with the fact that there are very few people who really know about these things means even with a relatively experienced MB guy, problems will be missed.

The market is slow anyway, and whatever you pay, prepare to spend at least the same amount within 6 months.

This car has been on the market for quite a while - so thats pretty much telling you something.

Joe,

Thanks for your thoughts.

I would never, ever purchase on hear say from others and I too have noticed that its been on the market quite a while. That makes my think that possibly someone has looked at it and asking for some imput to possibly save me a trip when I return home.

Buying any used car is always a chance not nowing it's past history especially an import that was manufactured 25 years ago. I've owned two of these cars since 1990 and I carry out all work and restoration myself. Even though they can be sometimes quite expensive to repair and maintain, I find them relatively quite simple to work on if you know what your doing.

I've been after a good one with an auto trani for some time now but not desperate as the wife can't drive a stick shift.

Looks like the car didn't get sold with no bids on eBay.

Its a shame I never got a chance to have a look at it.

Makes you wonder why this car has been on the market for so long.

Because it auto. Anyone and everyone who ever wanted or wants a 190 2.3 16 has to have it in manual, its just not the same car with an auto box, you could convert it over to manual for a justifiable price if you look around and meet the right people, I said " justifiable ", meaning will the amount of fun you have in this car after you convert it to manual be justifiable by cost, most people will tell you to " just get one with a manual box " and they would be mostly right, but these cars are becoming increasingly rare so . . . justifiable. The cost of pleasure and pain.
