MERCEDES W115 1971 ENGINE RECOMMENDATION

Post by DIN_shaz »

Hi,

ive got a w115. its had a full respray and the interior is tan leather. its looks the part but the engine is smokey. blue smoke and it never clears up. had a compression test done and cylinder 3 is down. engine in a 2.2 m115 with a dreaded stromberg carb
.

I'm looking for recommendations.

1) rebuild the engine, top or bottom end, depending on whats the issue and the carburettor. so remains original.

2) swap engine with a m110 or a om616 as its non to minimal wiring involved.

3) or go for a m103/m104. get a donor car and transfer everything over from the donor car.

thanks in advance

If you can do the engine work yourself I would keep it original, especially as the rest of the car is in such great shape.
An engine swap with a M110 would be a horrendous job because of the extensive D-jet electrics. Also, there are two struts in the engine bay on all the W114/115s other than the D-jet cars. You would need to remove these and I am not sure whether you would need to strengthen the bulkhead some other way.
