Hi Drew,

this shouldn't be a problem. The floor shift gear stick is also attached to the body and the rod balances the movements. In my case it's a wire, so there's enough "play room". When we did the test drive, the gearbox didn't move a lot, the bushes also have some slack, so I cannot see any problems there.

Regards
Thomas

Happy new year to you John too,

I know the guy, had a few phone cons with him. I have to call him, as he's obviously now selling his car. This one's from Austria, Jaurnig. They also made a station wagon, different to the Binz. The Club here has one of them.

Hi down under,

the dismantling continues; Friday the motor left the car again. Unfortunately it's close to impossible to find a proper, reasonably-priced panel beater these days. All booked out, super-arrogant and - of course - the super smart asses. We'll see.

Meanwhile, I try to dismantle and document as precisely as possible. As I want to galvanise (yellow) all visible bits and pieces, I need a system to assign all nooks and grannies when they come back ... all in a big box :laughing6: ... so I put up the third shelf for car part cartons and try to take photos as much as possible:

Well, I'll keep you informed ...
Thomas

P. S.: @John: I spoke to the guy with the Austrian Pickup; the ad was misleading; he's just looking for people who want to use it for advertising ...

Hi,
although I get the feeling, that interest is hardly there anymore, I wanted to report, that I finally found an enthusiastic guy who will take on the body work project, i. e. making one car out of two. As I was close to abandoning this project, it's now going on. March will see the dismantling finished and April the cars will be shipped quite a bit of a distance. So there is a chance now, that this pickup will be finished ... one day ...

Our interest?.... still there! Too easy to read and then not respond with a couple of words but still following closely. Also a bit quiet here lately.

Same here - so hard to find people to do proper body work. Those that can usually with huge demand and cost - most its either arrogance or fear and will laugh, not return calls etc. Hope you have found one of the rare capable ones. Have you spoken to 'referees'?

Yes, same here. Still reading and watching the pics.

As you could tell while you were here, I did my own panel work (in this case on my Rosa bus) because I don't trust anyone else and I certainly could not afford them if I did :laughing6: .

Thanks Craig and Bart,
yes I'm pretty confident, that I found the right guy. He's supposed to be honest and fair. There are still good people and companies in this world.

When you remember the discussion here last year about doing the work with a Mercedes Stealership. It turned out to be sooo fair and reliable, you cannot imagine. Two weeks ago they have done some welding on the sedan, so they could have charged me the high panel beater insurance rate. Yesterday I got the message, that they charge my discounted rate for that.

Not to mention, that I block one pit for nearly two years (!) ... and I don't pay for that. So all in all the "high" hourly rate is relative, it's what you get for it.

That's great you found the right guy. Interesting to about your dealer - 'what you get for it' - its like taking your car to a 'cheap' mechanic that doesn't know what they are doing but charge half the rate and takes 4 times as long...... which is really cheap!

I am lurking too! As another person whose projects take far too long to progress amongst the busy-ness of life, i think what you are achieving is fantastic. Especially your 3D printing gizmos. When doing Frankenbenz, I too found that there are so many suppliers out there that don't deliver what they are paid for, which is why i now try to do most things myself and they take years and years. So keep fighting and we will keep cheering for you!

My 560 SEC took me 4 years from the last time I drove it to completion and back on the road, i'm (a slow) 18 months into the engine conversion in my Jaguar. Theres no point in rushing these things and anyone who thinks you can do it quicker hasn't done a full project before. Hahaha

I do just about everything myself and fit it in between running a business and juggling 2 young kids, so I take my time and get some garage time when I can.

I’m still watching with interest Thomas, I admit that since the old green car has left the shed, cars have been a bit out of sight out of mind along with Ozbenz unfortunately. But still here and keen to see the outcome.

I will have some updates on the green beast later in the week too!

All the best
1998 W210 E240 - yawn, but like a tank - SOLD, what a great car we'd had it 12 years and was still going strong
1969 Fiat 124 sport coupe - SOLD it...bit sad but onwards and upwards
2000 Mk4 VW Golf GTi - the german's should be ashamed - SOLD, no love lost there
1965 W111 coupe 220seb - project car, going to take forever!
1998 BMW M3 - interim car until the coupe is back, bit of a rocket to boot - SOLD, cant help but think I'm going to regret selling that one
2003 Porsche 911 - had to see what all the fuss was about

Thanks guys,
the thread shouldn't be a showoff thing, but a sharing of ups and - a lot more - downs. I will report then ... next step is the axles out and replacing by little wheels mounted on a wooden bar of 10x10cm² :laughing6:

After that I have to organise the transport to ... you couldn't guess it ... Finland. So there will be 2-3 trips to Finland this year; my wife and I will definitely extend one of the visits for a weekend in Helsinki ....
