Valve lifter sound still there after replacing.

Hi all.

I have this a170 2005.
160 000km
It has this valve lifter sound.
I had the valve lifters and timing chain replaced, but noise remains.

Discussions with various people has produced this possible gem:
The high mileage early version w169 oil pump pickup has a filter that can get covered with a film of gunk, thus reducing oil pressure, as a result, tappet noise.
Easy fix, clean the pickup filter or replace oil pump.

Anybody else experience this issue as described?

Garages don't want to work on these a classes since they often require dropping the engine.

I am wondering if the suggested fix is the best option here, and if I can do it myself.
I have a jack and 2 stands, plus socket set.

Thanx.

One of my other cars is a Holden Barina/Opel Corsa 2003.
All these little cars (whatever brand) require the engine to be "manoeuvred" when you need to do some thing more than just an oil change.
I've just had the timing belt, water pump, thermostat replaced. A bit costly but no trouble finding a willing mechanic to tackle the task.

On my 2002 A160 it had the starter motor replaced last week and yes they had to manoeuvre the engine in order to do it.
Apart from being costly,(ouch!) the mechanic had no issue with doing the job.

Keep looking till you find someone willing to help. Working on an A class isn't all that difficult from other mainstream brands of similar design.

good luck
