What is the purpose of this?

Found this plugged into the seat belt catch of the front passenger seat of my new car.

Obviously it is a seat belt catch that goes into a seat belt catch.

Does anyone know what for?

Cheers

It would only extend it 2". Should there be another belt part to it, or are we missing something.

I can't see it being a very useful extender, it's not even 2 inches. The normal seat belt clipped into it, as it clips into the normal seat belt clip.

I suppose I could ring the dealer and ask...

In your car, would it be used to overcome a seat belt interlock?

Well it appears that it is for defeating the seat belt alarm but allowing the use of the seat belt by those who are weak* or in case the police arrive.

* wearing a seat belt is a sign of weakness in the Gulf according to a newspaper survey of driver attitudes I read in Dubai a couple of months ago, right up there with using indicators.... :cussing:

Yep, seat belt alarm defeated was my first thought, as nothing would amaze me having lived with their driving in the UAE...always got me seeing kids kneeling on the centre console as they overtook you doing 150klm/h +. :wall:
