rear window regulator replacement

Post by pina4greg » Thu 06 Jul, 2017 6:05 pm

The rear window on the 300se has not worked since I was given the car so decided to have a look today. Taking off the door panel was easy thanks to eYouTube and I found that the cable had snapped and the cable gone into the regulator. Motor still works fine. It looks like the regulator is attached to the door by pop rivets. I will have to drill them out and maybe replace them with bolts and nuts or self tapping screws instead. Will see how this goes. Will just have to drive around for a few days with the door panel off till a new one arrives. Where is the best place to get a good quality one at a reasonable price??

Check with the forum sponsor MB Spares in Canberra. They have an overnight bag service across Australia, so you can have your parts the next day.

Ordered some replacement rear hand brake shoes on the 30th June but they have not arrived as yet. Consignment tracking says delivery depot is Moora? Even though I live in Ellington. Star track are investigating.

MB Spares don't stock and have not sold one for that model for years so Ryan says.
Checked out pelican parts in the USA and ordered one from them.
Hopefully works out fine. See they sell repair kits the them. Probably better off with a new part though its cheaper. Get what you pay for and I do drive a W140. Gotta keep her going.....

I have just replaced my left rear window regulator as I found that upon inspection the cable had snapped.
Pricing parts was an eye opener as the part could be found on Ebay for as little as $30 or sourced local in Australia and was quoted $220 part ex Germany. Eventually brought from Pelican Parts for $60 and with freight to Australia it was $114.00. Looked up Youtube videos and replaced it in under 2 hours or so. No big problem just take you time and be gentle with door skin etc.

The replacement part was very nearly identical and seemed to have a couple of upgrades.. more metal pieces etc.
