So my friend tells me his W220 S350 was broken into and had its COMMAND system stolen - not ripped out but unplugged, so they knew what they were going for. I still have to find out how they broke in since I don't think there was any damage. It was garaged while he was away when it happened.
This is in Dubai, btw.
Anyway, he asked around and some mechanic had one for half the stealership replacement price, and with 1 yr warranty.
Question: is it a long shot that the factory would have records of the COMMAND system serial number against chassis number? Just to check the used part he's been offered isn't actually his!
He's checked option codes against VIN so he can make sure the options on the replacement COMMAND, but I wanted to confirm part number. Without approaching a dealer or spare parts stockist, is there a way to do this online?
