Accessing W220 child restraint anchorage points

Does anyone know how to access the mounting holes for a child seat anchorage point on a W220?

My friend returned from OS with his W220, ordered to Australian Standard, and it's passed all checks except it needs an anchorage point for child safety seats. The inspector said the mounting holes should be there already in the parcel shelf, but how do you get to them? What trim etc has to be removed, and in what order?

Any help appreciated.

Strange that this was left out. I'll get him to check if 625 is on the options plate, I would have expected it so as he ordered from the factory as Australian compliant with the thought he's bring it back to Oz one day.

It might have been delivered with isofix mounting points, standard in Europe.

It is easy to install such a point though. They sell em at Supercheap auto amongst others.
I just installed it in my finnie (which obviously had none)

Thanks Bart, but there's so much trim in a W220. One mechanic estimated 2.5 he's just to get the trim off.

I'll check for ISO-FIX....between backrest & cushion, yes?

You can remove all the trim - or - you can drill through the parcel shelf.

You could always find a car stealership who has a W220 for sale and have a look.

US spec owners manual shows anchors with installed catches under the rear headrests, but none there when he checked. His owner's manual is still packed away, so sighting a local used car is a good idea. I can't believe a W220 wouldn't have user friendly anchors readily accessible - for any market, not just Australia.

Something odd or just missed by looking too hard.

I'll check local yards tomorrow.

I am currently OS but will try to find out from the owner if he knows how the anchorages were fitted.

Have you tried checking from within the boot under the parcel shelf - usually the quickest way to locate -unless that also is covered in trim.

Thanks Tony from West Aust for help on email replies. Having trouble sending emails from OS and .... oh well, just easier replying here since no private info is being divulged and this reply may help others.

I asked my friend with the W220 what was involved and he replied that the (Mercedes indie) mechanic removed ALL the back seats and parcel shelf trim from the cabin (may also have involved the C-pillar trim), and all the "back of the seats" (presumably some divider between boot and cabin) from the boot. They did not remove the petrol tank.

The mounting holes were already there and they had to insert anchor bolts etc.

It is a difficult job as there are a large number of parts that have to be moved out and then put back in again in order!

His recollection is that it took the professional more than 5 hours.
