W219 unlocked by thieves

Post by ngruzevs » Mon 22 Jan, 2018 2:32 pm

My mates W219 CLS55AMG was broken into this morning, but looks like thieves unlocked the car via an electronic device, as windows and sunroof were open when he returned to the car. (There was no sign of forced entry).

I assume this isn't uncommon these days.

Anything missing?

There's a feature in these cars that will wind down the windows and open the sunroof from a set memory.
Certain sequence in pushing the remote buttons activates the memory.

Keyless go is a little different.

Persistent buggers :banghead: :banghead:
Although a locked glove box maybe indicative that there is something valuable inside.

If they had the electronic pass why didn't they just steal the car? It' push button start.

Hi,
here in Germany, cars are stolen on demand and then shipped to the East. Another thing is, that they break in cars and take out the command and airbags. Car inside is more or less destroyed and the owners start getting problems with their insurances. There's cases of new BMW's, where this happened twice in a few months ... just repaired and then again.

One advantage of living remote

Lot's of Benz's in Bulleen.
Lot's of retired Italian business people live there.
One of he highest concentrations of Italians in Melbourne.
I do some work for the Catholic church in Bulleen. During funerals the car park is always packed with Benz's. The previous parish priest has a W212.

Thomas
The post 2000 cars are broken down in the East and then the parts are shipped all over the world.
We have recently had some persons charged in connection with importing stolen parts from the middle east.

I have a friend who imports late model Mercedes panels from the middle east - he brings hem in in container loads. he now needs to be very careful where he sources the bits from. Lots of documentation required.

I understand that w124's and W123's are very desirable for theft due to their demand as taxis etc in the middle east.

Hi Thomas. Why would you steal a Command? I was down at the stealership a few days ago inquiring into the feasibility of updating the Command 4.5 in my W204. The service manager advised me to buy a ViseeO unit and use that in conjunction with the latest iPhone or Android unit.

My friend's W220 in Dubai had its Command stolen. Simply unplugged, nothing else stolen. And I don't think there was damage to windows etc so must have gained access electronically. Suspect part was used as a spare... or scam: a local mechanic happened to have one and offered it for sale to him!

The things people steal.
There's construction going on next door to my house. The builders pulled down the fence in between there yard and mine. They erected a temporary builders sectioned mesh fence between us - run right up the side of the house from the front fence.
After excavation there's a 3 meter drop from my property to theirs on their side of the temporary fence.
There was some wild wind last week and after this there was a 10 meter section missing - I assumed the wind had blown it over.
It was all replaced today. I spoke to the site manager. - he told me someone had stolen the section of fence over a night.
I didn't hear it go. There must have been a racket pulling it down. There's a 3 meter drop on the other side so at night it would have been a bit iffey.
