Central locking/Smart Key problem(s)

Post by Cuttlefish310 » Mon 14 Aug, 2017 5:54 pm

Hi folks, Yep, I'm a newbie with what can be commonly called the original "lemon" in my late Nov 2005 E200 Mercedes. :angry4: :banghead:

From Day One it has been nothing but a dud and spent more time in the workshop than on the road - well not quite but feels like it!

If I started listing the dozens of malfunctions and problems I would be way off the subject so I'll avoid doing that! :hand:

To my latest saga ......... early last year the front passengers door lock refused to lock/unlock on the first press of the smart key OR by pressing the lock icon on the dashboard. However, after two or three goes it always finished up locking nonetheless.

Over the ensuing period until now, the times required to perform these two actions got up to around 5-7 attempts but then both smart keys completely failed although I went through the usual amateur hour with new batteries, pulling them apart and staring hopefully at the circuit board - neither action fixed it! As of now, NONE of the key functions operate although I do get a brief red light illuminating when I press the lock/unlock buttons.

And now the lock icon on the dashboard is worse than ever, up to 10 presses from inside the car before it will finally lock all 4 doors! :cussing:

I refuse point blank to deal with Mercedes Benz in Fortitude Valley Brisbane as not only is their customer service atrocious, but the cost of their spares is almost laughable! e.g. I was quoted $2875 for a new battery relay that I subsequently got from Bosch in France for $275 incl freight all within 7 days!

:blackeye: Back to my door locks ................... sorry! I have been to my local Merc dealer in Coorparoo Brisbane but they of course want to strip the entire car apart "looking" for something broken. I would have thought that even this junk heap I am saddled with would have had some sort of error code that could be interrogated from their computer and point them in the right direction?

Please someone tell me there is a "fuse or reset button" that will fix the entire problem - wishful thinking I know. I did find a fuse in the left side of the trunk but seemed all OK and as this has been an ongoing issue I doubt it would be a fuse?

I have Googled :director: the globe but as yet have not found anybody with even the faintest idea of where I should start! :dontknow:

Any assistance, advice much appreciated!

Ian

ps Looks a top website this one! :king:

Fault codes are read by a scanner. Or by the stealership or independent MB specialist with a high end Mercedes Star Diagnostic computer.
The codes generally pinpoint fault areas to near exact locations.

SAM = Service Assist Module.
Their are a couple in modern M.B.'s.
There is one in particular which looks after your particular issue and is problematic in a few W203's
W211 - E240
W204 - C280
Departed
W202 - C200, C180, C180
W126 - 380SE , 380SE (Ex SA Import), 560SEL
W124 - 300e, 260e (ex Japan)
W111 220s (Indonesia) 4 speed manual column shift
W123 230
W116 450SEL
W140 420SEL
W210 E240, E240
W209 CLK 240
W201 190e 2.6 (ex U.K.)
