w210 E230/E430 Project - Stalling!

Post by MKE430 » Sat 29 Apr, 2017 12:30 pm

Hi Guys,

Long time reader first time poster so please be nice!

Long story short, I bought my brothers tired E230 off him when he moved OS, got me around for a while then I bought another car and the Benz became my project.

I picked up a written off (rear end hit) E430 with 114000kms on it, it still ran and drove fine despite being 3 foot shorter than standard.
I then completely stripped the 430 down to every nut and bolt to transplant the running gear (everything except the body and interior) into the 230 shell which is mint.

Everything was very straight forward as would be expected until the first start up attempt. It cranked, fired and ran for 2-3 seconds then the injector power is cut by the computer and she stops. It will do this day in day out now :banghead: . The car has everything from the e430 in it including the key fob, full loom etc and now i'm stumped because vehicle electronics are not my strong point so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The fuel pump isn't getting shut off as I've tried 'hard-wiring' it in to make sure this wasn't the issue but it does the same thing.

So far I have replaced:
- Crank Position Sensor
- Cam Angle Sensor
- All spark plugs (this hurt the wallet!)
- Fuel Pump
- Fuel Filter

It's showing the following codes:
1) P0341 - Cam Position Sensor Circuit Range/Performance (This is where I believe the issue may be but wanted some guidance before pulling the wiring apart in the engine bay as I know these looms are fragile)
2) P0443 - Evaporative System Purge Valve
3) P0743 - Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Electrical (Trans needs a service and fluid change so hoping this rectifies this code)
4) P0753 - Shift Solenoid Circuit A Electrical (Trans needs a service and fluid change so hoping this rectifies this code)
5) P0763 - Shift Solenoid Circuit C Electrical (Trans needs a service and fluid change so hoping this rectifies this code)

Thanks in advance!

I hope someone can help you - that is a mammoth project and must be frustrating to not have it running.

Of those issues you have pointed out I would have thought that the cam sensor maybe the culprit.

Transmission issues generally only cause limp home mode.

Did you change the instrument cluster and ignition modules and SAM's? Sam and relays in the boot to 430 stuff?

Thanks for the replies.

Yeah I've changed the instrument panel and the unit in the rear over too. As it sits everything is from the 430.
Tomorrow I'll start looking at the cam position wiring, carefully!

Cheers
