SLK DRIVERS CLUB OF NSW

Post by seanmacc » Mon 24 Mar, 2014 6:24 pm

The former Sydney SLK Group has now formed the SLK DRIVERS CLUB OF NSW Incorporated and is also affiliating with the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport.
Sydney owners of any model SLK are invited to join this enthusiastic group and participate in our bi-monthly drives. We avoid busy highways as far as possible preferring to drive on good country roads to a destination for lunch. Our drives take in the Blue Mountains, Southern Highlands, Hunter Valley and other venues. In the odd month we meet for coffee and car torque in the riverside café in Parramatta Park. One modest membership fee covers both the car owner and partner and provides equal membership status.
Get in touch with us, you will not be disappointed. Text me your email address and I will send you more information.

Sounds just like what many (particularly younger, or younger at heart) Merc owners have long been looking for. A club catering for enthusiast owners looking for a mix of motorsport, social gatherings, and country drives away from the boring highways. The traditional MB clubs are sometimes criticised for offering the social but not much else.

I, like many other Merc owners seeking a fuller driving experience, have joined the Classic Rally Club in NSW. This CAMS affiliated club bases its activities around navigational rallies in predominantly classic cars, but for many of us it is just an excuse for a spirited drive away from those busy major highways and socialising with other car and motorsport enthusiasts.

What a pity your club is just for SLK owners as I suspect there may be owners of other MB models that would be interested in your activities. At least when you become CAMS affiliated you will be able to attend the events of other CAMS affiliated clubs and, if you so desire, you will be able to invite members of other CAMS affiliated clubs to attend your events.

Good luck with your new venture!

Hi Greg,
Thank you for your input. You are quite correct, it was the lack of interest displayed by the MB clubs in driving events that led us to go it alone. I am the prime mover in this group having been a past president of the MX5 Club and I drafted the constitution with an eye to the future. We have a clause allowing the membership to extend the scope of coverage to admit other classes of MB SL cars without changing the constitution.
All we need is a little more time to become fully established. As they say in the advertising world, watch this space!
Cheers,
Sean

The Club is now a legal entity registered under State legislation as THE SLK DRIVERS CLUB OF NSW INCORPORATED.
The next formal step will be affiliation with the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport.
Membership is open to like minded SLK owners who enjoy driving their cars and if you are interested contact the secretary at seanmacc@bigpond.net.au and I will send you more information.
We hope to hear from you, meet you and admire your beautiful SLK.
Sean MacC.
