Alternator for W123 ‘85 230TE - Part No Request and Interchangeability

Post by c124 »

Hi Ozbenzer’s

Happy 2019! Quick question, I’ve been searching everywhere online to work out the part number for the alternator for a 1985 230TE (123.283).

Could I please trouble someone for this and any advice on whether an alternator from another MB (eg a 190E with a M102 engine) will bolt up a work?

Thanks in advance

The later models use a serpentine belt, so you would need to change the pulley. Yours goes back to W116 (I have pulled an alternator from a V8 W116 to get the higher amp rating), W123 and at least series 1 W126. Not sure about W114. The only thing that changes is the actual bracket that mounts it to the engine and adjusts the belt tension. These often get damaged by people who don't know to loosen them 1st before adjusting.

Hi,

I cant help you with your question, however I have just had my 300D alternator give up. A new one was going to cost similar to that of a new car, but I had it rebuilt, using genuine Bosch Parts for $400.00 including labour. The Auto electrician said that the alternator is so rock solid it will now out last me. Worth looking at!

+1 - I had an alternator rebuilt at a Bosch branded auto electrician - easy job for them. Just look for an authorized Bosch branded workshop.
